Can you use visa electron card in Orlando (mainly for shopping), I have credit card as well but only keep that for real emergencies, I've have'nt used it yet.

I usually just use my visa electron for everyday things and bills etc (in the uk)- mainly because i know whats in my account and how much i have to spend.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanking you in advance.

is visa electron the same thing as a debit card? (comes from your checking account?) if so than the answer is yes

if you have to use CC phone them before traveling tell then the dates you will be there we always do this so they do not think there is anythig wrong with dolar transactions apearing on the card

It might be worth checking about the electron card as it isn't accepted widely in the Uk so not sure about the states. it has the Visa sign so should be ok, but isn't the electron the one that won't take your account overdrawn?

The other thing you should check is what your bank will charge you when you use the card to buy/take money out of an ATM. They are likely to make a charge per transaction plus some commission on the exchange rate.

I think the best card for foriegn travel is currently the nationwide credit card.

Thanks for all the replies so far :goodvibes .

I called my bank today who have confirmed visa electron is used worldwide,
but they can't guarantee that all shops will except them. They have said if I'm still concerned about using it, I can go into my local bank at anytime to change my electron to a ordinary visa debit card.

What I'm also going to do is call the shops that I normally buy stuff from when I go to florida and see if they take visa electron - otherwise I will take travellers chq's which I've usually done in the past.

As I 'm travelling with my 12yr old niece, I will have to take a credit card in case of emergencies (i.e illness, medical care etc). On previous trips I have always used travellers cheques, and never felt the need to take or get a credit card. But a friend brought home to me the importance of travelling with someone else's children even family members.

As someone else as said the Nationwide credit card is the best one to take with you because it doesn't charge you. All the other credit cards will charge something like 2% per transaction which can add up.
