I'm trying to find out if the Visa Disney rewards can be used anywhere in the Parks or are there just certain places the rewards can be spent?

Could I say go to a pool bar in a resort & use the rewards for a drink? Could I use it at any place for dining? I thought that was the way it worked but then I saw something some where that rewards were good only in a few places.

I have never had any place turn it down. If your staying on property you can just make room charges and then apply your rewards to that.

Google "Disney Redemption Locations - Disney Rewards" and the first result will give you a whole listing of places you can use it at.

I've used them everywhere without an issue. And I also learned if you use the VISA in certain gift shops, you get a discount off of your purchase. But I found you have to ask for the discount in most cases - they don't willingly volunteer that info.

In previous trips, we have used our just about anywhere and everywhere. In fact, I am embarassed to say most of our rewards points goes towards our adult drink purchases.

as far as the discount goes its off of a purchase of $50 or more. this also applies to any visa credit card that has a disney theme to it. I'm pretty sure its a 10% discount but not positive.

I've just read on the Chase site that the Disney debit card will be no more. The credits earned must be used by October 11, 2011 I believe. AFAIK, the Disney Visa credit card is still in operation.

As an employee of Chase I can verify that after July 19th you can no longer earn the rewards however, I have not heard of a use by date (so to speak). To my knowledge the rewards you have/earn before the July 19th deadline will not expire, I will look to verify this. We will still offer the Disney Visa credit card, that I know to be accurate. We can all thank our Congress and their passing of the Durbin Admendment for this. There is still a chance for Congress to revoke this admendment, if that happens the rewards will continue so write your local congressman if you want the rewards to stay.

regretfully that means....we will probably be canceling all 3 of our Chase cards, including 2 Disney "Non-Reward" cards. Durbin amendment or not.....this is a Chase decision not a government one. I have a feeling they will lose plenty of customers over this....and wonder how much it will effect Disney?

I believe that the rewards are ending on the DEBIT card, not the credit card.

I guess I am confused...how is a Disney Rewards VISA different from a Disney Debit card??

Chase had offered a Disney Debit card. Open an account (like a savings or checking account) and you get the debit card that earns Disney Dollars as you used it. Chase stopped offering the debit card sometime near the end of last year but accounts that were already opened would still get the DD. Now it appears that Chase is discontinuing the DD on the debit cards altogether.

Credit cards still earn Disney Dollars. :)

Thank goodness...and thankyou for the explanation.

As soon as I heard about the debit Diseny Rewards being dropped, I realized thta it was probably because of the stricture of the fees that were not to be allowed by banks any longer. All of the new regs that get imposed are done so without thought to the concequences to the consumer. I don't have a debit card, never will, so it doesn't affect me. I do feel for those that it does affect, however.

At least the credit card is still on the program.

Thats what I was trying to say.... Thank you for clarifying for me. The debit card rewards are ending the Disney Visa credit card will still continue.

With a debit card you should only see one of two possible fees and both are consumer driven. Either using an unauthorized ATM to withdraw money or overdrafting the account. Now, Chase did charge a $25 annual fee for their debit card rewards program but that was all administrative cost covering (providing a 1-800# to redeem points, creating and maintaining a website to manage points, and the such).

The Durbin Admendment doesnt even directly affect the consumer it regulates how much providers can charge merchants (stores) for offering the credit card service. It was previously about 3.5% that a provider could charge. You spend $10.00 the provider made .45 for their service of processing the charge to the various cards, collecting the money, and forwarding the balance to the merchant's account. So 10 buyers in this scenario would only profit the probiver $4.50. Not even enough to cover one hour wage for the person handling the paperwork of this scenario. Now the government thinks if the provider should only charge 1.5% and only make .15 (in this scenario) for the same amount of work and that the "savings" is going to fix the economy. In all actuality this is going to further unemployment and cause those who manage to keep their job to have to do the work of 2 or 3 people.

I know there has deveolped this People vs "Big" Bank mentality in today's society but..... that's simply not the real case. The thing people forget is that banks are not non-profit (FTR neither are credit unions). I dont want to sound like I am picking a fight I just get tired of hearing the bank bashing. Sorry to for the rant.

I am sad to see the Disney Debit Rewards go as we have enjoyed the perks. Today we learned that all of our purchases made at major retailers (walmart, target, stop & shop) have been rung through as debit despite selecting credit, so we weren't receiving the rewards on our grocery purchases anyway.

I hope that everyone who is interested will slog through the article: http://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/2011/durbin-amendment-explained/
I didn't know too much about the Durbin Amendment until I read it, it is a complex issue that deserves a little attention and this article is the most impartial that I was able to find.
