Visa check card ?

Now that i am getting out of debt
I don't want to be using credit anymore
I keep seeing adverts on TV for a Visa Checking card.(money comes out of your account like a debt card)
I know you can get a pre paid card but you need to have one with the numbers embossed on it to be able to order airlines tickets or book hotels.
Can we get these in Canada
What do people do that don't have a cedit card ?
How do you book tickets on Southwest without one ?

The Visa or Mastercard Check card is the same as our debit cards.

The only difference is they are "sponsored" by Visa or Mastercard in the US so their "debit/check card" has the Visa logo on the card. It works the same as here, the money comes directly out of your chequing account and there is no "credit" attached to it.

Unforunately you might need a credit card for travel expenses, otherwise they usually need cash upfront.

I do know that Airtran does accept Paypal now. Not sure about SW.

Another option is a VISA or Mastercard prepaid card. I used a VISA mygiftcard for our last trip. I bought a $50 card from Price Chopper. They charge $2 a month for access, but I was able to add money to it. Then you use it just like a VISA card. Worked out great. I used my regular card for the airfare, though.
