Virus and spyware protection - your choice(s)?

I have a new computer ...

(* tooting my own horn for just a second here ... I won it from an online contest *)

... and I need to install all the neccessary protection. What's new, what's the best, most preferred by computer gurus, etc.?

I could just install what I have on my other computer but I haven't kept up with what's new. And if I recall, my virus protection subscription is due to be renewed at the end of this month anyhow.

Best antivirus IMHO is Nod 32. Best FREE antivirus IMHO is AVG.

Keep in mind that many ISPs will also offer antivirus for free to its subscribers. For example, my ISP offers CA Security. (I still use AVG because I like it better.)

For spyware, I use a combination of MalwareBytes, SpyBot and Windows Defender. They're all free.

Yup I run Windows Onecare because I like some of the ease it sets things up on my 3 included ones.

But run the above on 2 others and then got 3 yrs of McAvee but not sure iof I'm keeping that as it tends to load up after time and really slows the thing down.

My company uses Trend Micro and I use it at home. I've never had a problem.

AVG you can get it online FREE. computer repair shop recommended it to me after I got spyware/malware. I use to have Trend.

Just keep in mind that companies offering freeware put development efforts into their money making projects first so the threat signatures on free wares may not be as up to date as paid products. Having said that i use symantec-which-as a DOD contractor and spouse of a soldier we get for free from DOD because they want computers that touch stuff that touches thier network kept clean. Also use lava soft adaware, spybot search and destroy and windows defender.
