I need to get a copy of my birth cert., BUT I have just learned that the state of Virginia no longer issues birth cert. that have the raised seal! What do I do now? Will DCL accept the cert. without the raised seal?

When did VA stop issuing Birth Certs without rasied seal? I just got back from the Wonder and I have 3 children. DS was born in 1989 (his cert had a raised seal), DD was born in 1993 (her cert had a raised seal) and DD #2 was born in 1996 and her cert did NOT have a raised seal. We had no problems with hers, they barely looked at it.

We crusied last summer and DH's NY cert did NOT have the seal either and they gave him a very hard time. He got a passport for this last cruise. With the terror and the way the world is today, maybe it would be a good investment to get a passport, I did not worry at all once my husband had his.

I don't really know when they stopped issuing birth cert. without the raised seal. They do state that the certs. issued are fine for travel. I went to their on-line site tonight and right at the top I found this:
"New Certificates - Note: the certification paper does not have a raised seal, that is, a seal that you can feel, but the issued document is acceptable for travel, passport, and any official agency requiring proof of birth."
I wonder if Dcl will accept this? I don't travel all that much and really didn' t want to go through the hassel or expense of obtaining a passport.

disneylover5: I noticed that you live in Centreville, Va. I live there as well. Some snow storm!

We live in Gate Post Estates. We measured 19.5"of snow. I do not think the kids will ever go back to school.

Like I said, the birth cert (VA) my DD6 has does not have a raised seal and they were fine with that. I would call who ever you made the reservations with (travel agent or Disney) and ask.

When we checked in this Jan, they had a list of those who had no birth certs with them. I asked what happens to them and they said they had to fill out special paper work. That was before the ORANGE alert and I have read that it has gotten worse the last few weeks

My son has a VA certificate from the end of 2001 on the new paper. We cruised with no problem. The CM that checked us in at the counter "felt" all of the certificates to make sure they had some kind of embossing. His certificate was fine. They are looking to make sure it is an official certificate and that it isn't just a copy.

I had this same question because my DH's birth cert from CA does not have a raised seal but a purple stamp on it. I called DCL Guest Services and they said it would be fine as long as it is a birth certificate issued from the state. The main thing is they do not want people trying to use a copy or a hospital issued certificate. With all the security concerns lately we are getting passports just to be on the safe side.:)

Hey disneylover5? I noticed that you were from Centreville. So are we. How Random!

I have the little card Birth Certificate. It looks like a credit card. I've used it for the past three DCL trips, but I don't have a clue if I can still use it after September 11th. I guess I'll have to check into that!

I have a new VA birth certificate and an old one. My new one doesn't have the big embossed/raised spot, and it worked fine. It has a watermark, etc. in the background and is all official looking. Although it is wanting to split in two at the perforation.

I just wanted to say hi to all my VA posters. We are from Dumfries! What a small world. On my last cruise, our tablemates were from Reston. Everyone have a great cruise. We can't wait until Sept.6 and our first time with DCL.
We measured 16 inches of snow in our backyard. Spent the better part of Monday shoveling out the driveway. You know we should be on deck sitting beside the pool, not shoveling snow.

Virginia here too. No snow, but 5 inches of ice. Not only are the children never going back to school....I'm never going to get off my street!

We had the snow and the ice here in Fredericksburg last week. And the thunderstorms yesterday. And now the wind. I wish I had booked our first cruise for now instead of December ;)

The birth certificates must be a certified copy issued by the state or county in which you were born.

They will not accept hospital copies or photo copies.

Please don't let this 'raised seal' get you all confused.
