Virginia beach transportatio from KOA campground to airport? Update- HE IS HOME!!!

I can't imagine having another child in my care and not being sure that they receive medical care and/or accompany them to the airport and be sure they are on the plane. I also would never leave them alone if they were sick. YIKES! Your poor ds. At least he is a little older and hopefully not in too much pain. Bless his heart! How awful for all of you!

Hope he makes it home safe and sound!

I talked to chager a few minutes ago and her son is on the plane and on the way home. She is on the way to the airport and will update when they get home later.

HE IS HOME!!!!!!:woohoo:
SO here is the remaining details....He was put on a bus and found out he had to switch to another bus at some point. This is when I found out the dad didn't travel with him. Apparently the nearest bus stop is a half mile away from the airport. So he WALKED there! GRRRR He called me when he was already half way there or else I would have had time to call security or a cab, or somebody to get him there safely. So he ends up walking a half mile on the stress fractured leg that he is not to be doing alot of walking on. I guess it have been worse. It was raining too. There were no sidewalks. No other people. ALot of trees. At least it wasn't a hard rain. There wasn't a ton of traffic. He used the navigator on his phone to be sure he was heading the right way. He said once he made it to the airport everyone was nice to him. He says he got to sit next to college girls on both flights. The stewardess was really nice and let him have a Monster even. (She was "HOT" according to him.)
He does definately have some severe burns on his shoulders and upper back. He is fairly blistered. He still is complaining he feels like he is going to throw up. He will be seeing a Dr first thing in the morning.Right now he just wants to rest. I had my parents look him over too. They said that he is bad but not necessarily ER bad given at this time of night it would be an all night event and he wouldn't be seen till 3 or 4 am anyway. (Been there, Done that, Have the t-shirt for Sunday night ER visits from last Fall!) It definately looks 2nd degree, and although I was told by the parent he doesn't have a rash, he sure looks like he does to me! At least that is what I call the little red dots across his back and chest. :confused3
I appreciate all the prayers and good thoughts. The angels were definately keeping him safe all the way home.
Thank you lovetoscrap for doing an update for me!

:thumbsup2 I'm so glad he's home safe and sound! Noticing the girls is a really good sign that he's on the mend!

OP-Glad your son is back home where you can get him the help he needs. Shame on those other parents for being so irresponsible and uncaring! Oh, and thank goodness ds had a "nice view" on the plane to keep his mind off of the pain!

What a relief that he's home safe. That dad is a mess. What kind of man would not accompany a sick kid to the airport? Idiot

I'm jumping on this thread with my Mom radar going full blast!! I cannot wait to hear the ending of this story when you address this Dad when HE gets home. omg. How unbelievable irresponsible of him. What was more important, getting back to the campfire or something?? How brave of your son to do that all on his own. He'll never forget that experience. And thank God his cell phone didn't die!:thumbsup2, right Mom?

So have you thought about how you're going to deal with this yet? And where was the other Mom in this picture, or was it an all boys trip? I'd be steaming mad at this Dad, I don't know how you'll keep it together. Keep us updated, ok?

Glad he made it home and is now in your loving care! Hope everything goes well at the dr tomorrow.

I would be livid at the family that took him and would definitely be having some words with them when they return.

Let us know what happens.

Thank God he is home!!!! I hope he feels better real soon!

Now for those parents. When they get home rip them a new one.You don't take somebody elses child on vacation leave them alone and then when they get sick send them on there own to get to a airport to get home. What if something happened to him on the walk??I'm sick to death for you I want to drive from NJ and help you rip them a new one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!People make me sick

Good lord...what a mess! I'm so happy your son is home and safe. I have to say that I cannot imagine myself or my husband taking someone else's child on vacation and not treating them just as preciously as our own boys.

I signed on as soon as I got home today to see if your son made it home yet. Glad to hear he is home safely.
Those parents are complete morons. They would be getting a major blasting from me!

:scared1:

i am so glad that he got home alright. sounds to me like he is a smart & hardy young dude. good for him! :thumbsup2

as for those parents...wowee. mommy wrath away!!

please keep us updated! :grouphug:

Thanks for all the great support. The good thing is I have another 48 hours before I will have to see the parents he was with. The dad tried to say he really wasn't too bad. Well he does have 2nd degree burns on his shoulder. It is really really gross! He was in so much pain that he screamed when I put aloe on the less burned parts. We are using neosporin on the really bad burn areas. He is also now on antibitotics. He has take a pill every 6 hours and then the doc will recheck him Tues night when they recheck his stress fracture. The Dr did say he has seen much worse, but he does have a severe burn.
I am generally a really level headed person and tend to have a very calm demeanor. That does not mean my eyes don't turn red and have lasers shoot out as I speak to someone though.I am the peace keeper in the neighborhood because I have the ability to see both sides of a situation. That being said......this is MY CHILD!!!!! I would never treat someone elses child this way and I never expected my child to be treated better by complete strangers!! Ok I need to go to my happy spot again.

chager-did you discover where the grownups were=you said that neither you or your son could reach them overnight????(And that's why the neighboring campers checked your son out)
Where WERE they???

Please take this time to stress the importance of suncreen to your son- sun poisoning is bad enough when you get it but there is also an impact from it later on in life just from getting it once when you are young!

Ohhh my goodness... There would be NO calming down on my part if that had been my kid. If I had survived waiting for him to come home, I think I would have made sure he was safe with my relatives and trucked myself right down there to have a talk with these moronic "parents" (and I use that term loosely!)

Wow... how can someone treat someone ELSE'S child that THEY are responsible for like a piece of LUGGAGE??? I would be over the top...  :headache:

I'm so glad he made it home safely; I hope the burns end up nothing more than a memory and a sunscreen lesson learned
