Virgin seat reservation question

I have just phoned Virgin to try and find out why i couldnt book my plane seats for our holiday next May online, thinking i could do it 11 months out. She said i couldnt do it until the start of August, bcause thats when the flights are released, but the flights are released 11 months out right ?
