My husband has a virgin mobile pay as you go plan. We are wanting to upgrade his phone and use their $35.00 unlimited text and data plus 300 minutes talk time. That seems very cheap for unlimited data and text (plus if we sign up for auto pay, it drops down to $30.00 a month. Could anyone who has this plan offer some feedback? Thanks!

I don't have Virgin but, until a few months ago, my sister did. She never had any problems with them and had that same plan. Data was always available, no issues there.

The only drawback for her was since she had an older-ish web enabled phone (a touchscreen but not like smartphones of today) she could use the Internet, just some sites load with a bare-bones look. Again, probably wouldn't matter for some folks or depending on the phone he has, but for a teenager it was less than what she wanted.

Our contract ended with Sprint, so we decided to give Virgin a try since they use Sprint towers. So far so good.

We pay $90 a month for three phones...same plan as you are thinking of. When we are home, the phones use our wifi and not 3g.

To have a similar plan with Verizon would be almost $200 a month.

My kids both got the LG Optimus Elite phone and I got the Motorola for the bigger screen. Totally worth it.

You can also set it so 3g and wifi is off when you aren't using it to conserve on battery life.

I would definitely recommend them.

Hope this helps!

PS..we are in our third month with Virgin

My daughter has had this plan for over a year. We got it when it was $25 a month. We have Tracfone but she was always running out of minutes because she texts too much, so this works out well for her.

We've had them for years. Love it. And they do have new smartphones, even iphones so you can choose one that suites his needs.

My DD has had this plan since she left for school 2 1/2 yrs ago and has not had any problems. Has only used all her minutes once When she was home and her boyfriend was away over the holidays staying with grandparents that didn't have internet so they couldn't skype)

I have virgin mobile with the 300 min/unlim data and text for $35 a month. I always buy top up cards from Walmart (direct email delivery of pin) and pay a few pennies less than the 35 and no taxes. If you get the iphone, the auto-pay perk is awesome. I myself have the Motorola Triumph and I like it, but I'll be upgrading to the HTC Evo V soon. Never had a problem with service, and I've traveled cross country with my phone and it still works well. I love having the freedom to upgrade my phone whenever I want, and to change my plan if I need to and Im not paying for extra mins I don't need. :)

I've had mine for a year this month and have had no problems. You can't beat the price! I've only run out of minutes one month and had to buy extra. I usually don't talk that much. I'd like to have the Iphone that they have just come out with, but right now can't justify the $550 price tag!

We have had that plan for over 2 years, we pay $25 for it and we have always been happy with it. Good coverage, easy customer service, great price. I always recommend it when people are asking!

We did have coverage issues when we were way up north in Michigan but it has been fine elsewhere.

Dd has had it for two years and it's been fine. Hers is $25/month as we started it before the price hike.

We are looking into getting my younger dd a phone now. I think the $30 with autopay is only if you get the iPhone. Otherwise the cheapest plan is $35/month.

I have the LG Optimus V smart phone for Virgin Mobile. Abosolutely love it! In fact bought one for my hubby too. We're on the $35/month plan auto pay (so with tax comes to just over $37/month). We put a $10 top up card on just incase we go over the 300 minutes but we haven't so far. Data is great and unlimited text too. Just haven't found a better no contract phone.

We dropped Verizon a few months ago and all 3 of us now have Virgin. Love it! No problems for us and saved a lot! I buy the top up cards at Target when they go on sale and use my Target cc, so ends up being 10% off. Is there a way to get it cheaper with auto pay?

Dd has $25 grandfathered plan with an Optimus V that's started giving her issues. Not sure if it's the phone or the user, I'd guess the user going by how many phones she's broken! :rolleyes1 Dh and I each have the Optimus Elite. Love them! I work/drive through the boonies and still haven't had trouble losing signal, though I know others do in certain areas.

It is nice to save $60+ /month and we can all have smartphones now!

The autopay discount is only offered now with the iPhone.

Thank you everyone for your input. We got him a relatively inexpensive phone (which I think we may regret) and went with Virgin Mobile. He just became the interim department chair for his department and we found out yesterday that the department will pay for his phone service :cool1:. Wish we would have gone with the iPhone now. The $400.00 that the department would pay goes a long way toward paying for the iPhone. We bought the VM phone from from Walmart and can return it within 15 days so I think we'll try to do that.

Thanks again!
