Morning everyone hope all ok and enjoying the lovely live trip updates we're getting?
We fly with virgin Atlantic to Orlando on 13th sep and return 4th oct. Happy to fly economy on the way out but were hoping we would be able to upgrade for the first time ever to premium economy for the return. We have enough miles to use miles plus money and have been regularly checking the prices, and the upgrade would be £700 for 2 adults and 2 children. Last Friday we decided to take the plunge and go for the upgrade but to our horror all the miles plus money seats were showing up as no flights. We gave VA a ring and they confirmed this, although there were still PE tickets available at the full price of £2000+ if we wanted. He did intimate that they might release further seats at another time but no promises.
Obviously the full price tickets are a big no no for us so what I'm basically rambling on about is has anyone else been in this situation and do they ever release more seats or should we give up on this idea? He did suggest that they have enough availability at the moment for us to buy 2 extra seats at £85 each and spread out a bit. Help! :confused3
Thanks all now I'm off to read matts blog for my daily disney fix:)

They do sometimes release more seats, when i used to work for them it was a very limited number of miles seats on each flight esp the tourist routes as it were.

I oersonally would keep checking and make sure you have the right economy ticket to upgrade as not all economy tickets can be used to upgrade with miles

How do you know if you have the right type of economy ticket to upgrade to PE?

If you have got the cheapest tickets then your prob cant upgrade, each ticket has a fare code letter and the most exoensive economy fare is a y code, from memory i think most economy tickets are x fare which cant be upgraded with miles. You need to call the contact centre and find out yourfare code and ask them if it can be uograded

Yes you are so right we got caught out with this! But we did manage to upgrade at the airport and pay cash but I would say this only works 50% of the time and depending on how full the flight is. I noticed it is becoming harder and harder these days. Don't know if there is less PE or just more popular! I noticed they changed the config of the planes but if there is more or less economy now not sure. Sure is less staff .... Sadly.

Thank you everyone I shall give VA a ring later and ask, hadn't even occurred to me that I might not be able to upgrade my ticket. Fingers crossed that I can and that availability comes up :worship:

VA have just released PE miles plus money for the date we want but at double the price. My hubby gave them a ring and was told the price may come down a bit tomorrow and that yes on our ticket we can upgrade. It's going o be Venice 24 hours ha ha :cool1:

Just wondered what code your tickets are for you to be able to upgrade. Think our code is v

Ha ha I just re read my last message and realised I wrote something about Venice!!- I had just finished a long night shift so was obviously a bit confused:rotfl2:
The price for an upgrade 1 way is now £1600 on top of what we have already paid so tonight we're going to book extra leg room seats at £25pp-much more reasonable:rotfl: If there's seats available when we check in at the airport and its cheaper we might upgrade then. The bonus of extra leg room seats is that it's only 5 rows which are all situated in a good location for us.
I can't remember which code we had (will ask hubby when he gets home) but its really easy to just give them a ring and ask :)

I've since found out we can't upgrade on our code anyway so guess we'll save the miles anyway. Think we'll see what we can prebook but will prob go for extra legroom seats too. I'm 6' 4" so appreciate a bit of extra space. I usually tuck my legs as far under the seat in front as I can anyway, then put on my music, close my eyes and relax for as long as I can!
