So, the rumor is the entire 1st floor is to be replaced with a display of drsses and gowns worn by Princess Diana.

No disrespect intended to the late Princess, but are you kidding me???

Yes, I saw that too. Princess Diana gowns and Imelda Marcos shoes. I thought maybe I was the only one who found that totally uninteresting. :confused3

I just read about Imelda Marcos' shoes.

Man - Will me and my 3 boys ever have fun in there!!!!:cool1:

Someone told me it is going to be an IMAX. Does anyone actually know for sure what it'll be?

Again, no disrespect, but would they be charging for admission? :confused3
I find this equally uninteresting. Smithsonian, Washington DC=yes.
DTD? Sorry, time is limited enough as it is.

Someone told me it is going to be an IMAX.

That's an assumption that some people made when AMC announced that a new IMAX screen would be coming to DTD. But the screen will be installed inside the current AMC Theatres location, not inside the former Virgin Megastore building. :)

I don't care who you are or how much the dress cost or who the designer is, I still don't want to look at the clothes. If it is free, there wouldn't be much income to be had by opening that type of display unless they sold reproductions and such but I think that would yeild a limited line of consumers. This doesn't make any sense to me as far as the whole revamping of the area goes.

There cannot be truth to that rumor... I can't imagine 1/15th of the people who go to DTD would want to see that...

Seriously?:confused3

How very bizarre? Coming from a Brit also, I think it'd be much better if the dresses were kept here with us and maybe set up a gallery in London. I believe more tourists would find them much more 'viewable' in their rightful country, not that many American's didn't love our Princess too mind.

Still, I wouldn't take time out to go view them at the Virgin Megastore - very odd if you ask me :confused3

Another Brit here, and what a wierd idea!!

Surely there are 100 better places in London they could be where the right type of people would be willing to spend time and money to see wonderful clothes and memoribilia.

But I won't even be popping in to see them if I'm in DTD with time to spare! (And I love the royal family!) I would be doing florida stuff like swimming or shopping or seeing Mickey.

If I was on a city break to Prague, then by all means I'd walk around museums and galleries. But that's not what my disney trip is for!

Whew - at least we finally know what Disney's response to Universal's Harry Potter is going to be.......

:rotfl:

And I agree with many of the others... if the display was elsewhere then I would like to see Princess Diana's dresses. I thought she was such a lovely person -- on both the inside and the outside. It's just not something I want to do while I'm at Disney World.

As for the shoes of Imelda Marcos, well, I couldn't possibly care less about those. I also rather think it is insulting to Princess Diana's memory to have her clothing on display along with those shoes.

if they want rid of DTD for some reason (which it certainly seems), then just close it and rip the entire place down already!

whats the point in slowly running it down like they currently seem to be doing?

I loved Princess Di as much as the next person. But, really. Somebody in charge doesn't realize the last century ended nearly 10 years ago. Princess Di's dresses and Imelda Marcos' shoes. Could there be anything so "yesterday"?

Either it's a ridiculous rumor or the mass layoffs a couple of months ago cut way too deep and the patient is hemoraging as far as talent, creativity and ingenuity are concerned.

We were sad to see Virgin Megastore close. Toward the end, it was only a shadow of its former self. But, there were a few years there where we found intriguing videos and books that we hadn't seen anywhere else, and it was really another fun WDW attraction.

Oh well.
