Am I right in thinking that Virgin will give our 3 DD's goody backpacks when we check in? If so, would it be a good idea to put their books/colouring things/sweeties etc in carrier bags (rather than their own backpacks) so that we aren't loaded down with things to carry? Are the backpacks quite substantial or flimsy ones?

For the last 3 years they have been satchel style and very sturdy. I put the extra things in carrier bags and transfer them either at the gate or on the plane. The goodies in the bags used to be really good, but they have got less over the years.

I find the plastic bags you get on the planes entertain them as well. My DD's like putting on the socks etc. They also make great swim bags afterwards.

We have just come back. Our two had the satchel type bag. Very good quality. Came with a reading book, a colouring book and pencil and a sun hat. They also had the normal amenity pack issued on the plane. Headphones etc.

I had packed some sweets, nibbles and activities which did help as the activities in the bag itself were few and far between. To be fair the IFE kept my two busy most of the time and if the headphones supplied are dodgy ask for a new set.

Hi

My DD got her goody pack when we were just about to board the plane.
There wasnt much in it to keep her occupied for long.
We always let her take something else with her.

The back pack is substantial, and it is a good idea to transport other things in a carrier bag, we ended up having 2 back packs each for the kids and you know who has got to carry the spare one ME!! The book kept my dd interested for a while but was a bit young for my ds.

The backpacks are well made and come in very useful.

We tend to put our son's books/snacks in our normal hand luggage, a bit of a squeeze fitting them in but once we have the backpack we transfer them over.

As far as the contents, nothing much really but the pack itself is very good.
