What have your kids got in the backpacks Virgin give all children? What sort of programmes did they offer for children. TYIA

:D Hi Elaine

Katie has quite a collection now - sad they're all the same though;)

I'm assuming you've not seem them, so pardon if you have and I'm teaching grandmother to suck her proverbial eggs:D

The backpacks are really good quality - inside they have a magazine with lots of up to date pop, fashion, etc news, quizes, there's 2 Disney plastic characters (so far we have Mickey, Minnie, Winnie, Tigger, Pluto and Goofey - again reasonable quality). There's a book (last couple of years it's been "Water Wings" by . . sorry, can't remember :o ).

There's a Pez candy holder and packet of Pez sweeties to go in it (always gets a smile:) ) pencil, pen and one of those crayon-y type pencils that has lots of different colours in it that you move down (did I explain myself well there:rolleyes: ).

Then there's a really cool pair of silver plastic-framed sunglasses and a red Virgin K-id baseball cap.

If I've missed anything, sorry - but as you can see there's a good selection in it.

The kiddies collect their backpacks from Virgin staff at the departure lounge, which is great because looking through amuses them for quite a while:)

Oh, and on the return flight kiddies get one of those cardboard type lunchboxes with fruit (apple), carton of orange juice and sweets as they board.

Do you know about the other Amenity Kits everyone gets - they're just SO handy - let me know if you need any other info.

Mrs Dazzle Thanks for your detailed description. I'm quite impressed by how much is actually in the bags, I think they will do the trick of keeping them entertained at least initially

I read that there was such a thing, but have no idea what the details are?
I suppose it is obvious I haven't flown with Virgin before!

 Hi again, Elaine.

Virgin's amenity kits are, as I said, so useful. They are (normally) blue or white plastic (strong) bags which you can use as backpacks to carry stuff to the parks, beach etc.

Inside they have had (in the past) - small pot of lip salve (REALLY good stuff - I stash loads of this away, still on my last pot from last year;) ); small packet of tissues; pen and notebook; postcards (flogging Virgin products); socks (oh well, didn't say it was ALL good stuff;) , although they do come in useful and are normally brightly coloured); earplugs.

The bags themselves are worth their weight in gold because they're so useful. DD uses them for school swimming kit and another for her PE kit.

You get one each person, each flight:)

Hope that helps:p
Annie

Hi Elaine - well I think Annie has told you most everything about the Virgin bags and kits, but just thought I'd mention something we do now since our first flight with Virgin. We found the children were really bogged down with their own backpacks PLUS the Virgin backpacks so now we just put their stuff in a carrier bag and transfer it to the Virgin backpack when they get it- not very elegant, but it means when we get off the flight at MCO they only have one backpack to carry, and aren't asking Mum and Dad to help them! :D

Re the flight we are going to take Gameboys this time round just in case the films don't appeal, and also last trip we took some plasticine, not Playdoh, but the old fashioned stuff, as it's not as crumbly. It kept them occupied for quite some time, I even made a creature or two myself! ;)

You can check out which films are showing on virgins website www.virginatlantic.com If you leave it til the day before your travel it should be accurate. There is also a kids channel with cartoons and stuff showing. If you are really lucky you will get a 'plane with the nintendo on, but there are very thin on the ground apparently, so I wouldn't get your hopes up but you never know!

We have also used the plastic backpacks from the amenity kit, in fact I have about 4 of them which haven't been used yet, they are great for swimming and quite sturdy.

You mentioned the socks Annie, aren't they some shocking colours though! LOL! ;)

Just some latest infor for you, we return 2 weeks ago, with Virgin, I foudn the K-iD packs really disappointing. My three boys all got their packs as we boarded, they contained (apart from the packs of ear plugs etc) 3 chup-a-cup lollies, a book for age 8+ and a Virgin hat (which was rather naff). That all. Luckily, we had bought some magazines, crayons etc for them to do. The only film showing was Jimmy Neutron (outbound) and Johnny Thunderpants (inbound), which played back to back for the whole 9 hours. Nothing else was on the TV channel for kids, and the games consoles werent on our plane. Fortunately we put in their game boys at the last minute.

Hope your trip is better, but just in case take a few of your own bits!

Also a word of warning, If your children do put their own things in the packs on the plane, write their names clearly onthe outside before you get off. When you have to put all your bags through the x-ray on arrival, we found about 12 p acks came through the other end at the same time, and had to waste valueable time searching through the bags to find our own!

Shame your boys missed out on the usual goodies . . . looks like more of good old Virgin's "cutbacks" again:(

Travelled with VA in June and had the usual bags on the way out but disappointed on the way home as only got a small pencil case/make up type bag with half the normal goodies - no socks to put on when visiting the toilet without shoes!!!
Claire :D

Hi, we got back yesterday, flew with Virgin from Manchester (first time flight with Virgin).

The K-id pack contained two colouring/activity books and a small story book which is probably aimed at the 7-8 year old age group, a multi change pencil and a small rubik cube key ring, plus a virgin baseball cap. No sweets or sunglasses though.

The amenity pack contained pen, notepad, tissues, lipbalm, socks, wipe, toothbrush and toothpaste.

Hey Mrs Dazzle,

When we went in june, we got the back pack too ;) it is handy!
Didnt get everything u have listed though :( DD got a book, that colour pencil where you change the colour (bad at discribing) lol,and a pack of crayons and a small pocket colouring book, plus the red virgin cap!

We never got the lunch box on the returning flight either, and Grr on the way there cause DD had gone to sleep when her kiddies meal was served,by the time she woke, they told us they had given it to someone else, and she would have to have the spicy curry which was freezing,it didnt go down well for her :( so she had the crackers....

The bags we all get though are fab with mini everythings in from toothbrushes (with the cool duck attached dd loved this),to lip balm, scented tissues etc...the bags are great for using on holiday as a beach bag too!
When we boarded the plane to come on,they said on the mic that the passengers already on the plane before us had taken some of the bags,so they would had more out!! LOL

Another tip your little books, and pens in the kit make a great diary, thats how i kept all mine,i wrote it all down in them...hehe..

Anyways,thats enough of me,hope i make sence.

Beth - understood every word - and if it made sense to me in my pre-coffee fuddle duddle, then it certainly will to most other people;)

Bet your DD REALLY loved the cold, spicy curry:rolleyes: What are these people like - and why did they give her food away, anyway (in other words someone got it who hadn't ordered it:mad: ).

My kids didn't like the kids meals at all. I should have taken more snacks.

On our flight the salmon meal was very popular and they ran out. Kids meals were offered adults who didn't like the other options. (They ran out of chicken on the way home).

I still think it would be easier if childrens tickets were all allocated kids meals and you had to book an adult meal for them instead, as I think a lot of travellers with kids assume they'll automatically get the children's meal - they all get the kids rucksack. I'm sure that's what happened when we flew with Brittania to Spain a few years ago.

She totally hated it annie it was terrible really was,it smelt disgusting, she had a spoonful and sat there looking very off! In the end she had a cracker and went back to sleep! so she hardly eat anything!

On the way home we got a burger king! so we was prepared, the food wasnt too bad on the way home, think it was pasta with chicken, which was a weird combination as the pasta was in a red sauce, and the chicken was one big slice of it over the top LOL,i picked it off didnt look very nice! Suppose thats meals on the plane though!

Glad i made sence! ;)

Beth! x

Do they have microwaves on the planes?

Just wondered if it was worth taking a couple of ready meals to heat up on the plane :)

Not sure,i think they just have little compartments which are warmish for the food? but dont quote me on that LOL

;) i hope they do for you lol :)
