Once joined I don't think you can change the scheme you are on, I have one account for VA airmiles & one for Delta, can't change either.

Yeah, it seems that unless you joined through an invitation, you only earn avios miles. Useless for me as all I have ever flown with in the past 5 years seems to have been Virgin Atlantic.

How do you get the invite? Any way to "encourage" it from Virgin?

We had the invite a couple of years back and haven't heard from them since. If you join through the e-rewards website directly, you can still collect avios miles, which are a little useless to me.

My partner joined when she had the invitation and has done the odd survey here and there as well as a couple of product testings.
I think in total she has exchanged enough points for either 6000 or 8000 miles so far.

I don't think there is anything to encourage virgin to send you an invite. I use my virgin credit card every month and do 1-2 flights with them every year but never got a second invite from them.
