I'm confused :crazy2:

We're members of both FV and VFC. I've used FV for a discount in the past when booking through Virgin, and I've always added flight details to our Flying Club accounts to get the mileage whoever we've booked with.

Our flights in March have been booked using AirMiles (not Virgin miles - 'ordinary' AirMiles), and I have added our FC membership numbers to the booking (although I suspect they might not be eligible to earn miles because they're not full fare). Should I also be telling FV about these flights? Will it make any difference, apart from adding to our total number of flights - are there still different levels of FV membership? It's a flight only booking, so there's no car upgrade to claim, but is there any other reason I should let FV know?

There is no need to let Frequent Virgin Club know about these flights - there are no different levels of FVC membership and even if there was, this would not count as it was not booked through Virgin Holidays. Also, you are correct that they are not eligible for mileage due to you using airmiles as part payment.

:)

Having re-read my post and your post, I am confused too!

I think you are asking whether you should contact flying club ? For Flying Club there are different membership tiers (red/silver/gold), but in order to progress to the next tier you need to collect tier points, and (as far as I am aware) these cannot be collected for flights for which airmiles have been used as part payment. For this reason, there would be no need to let Flying Club know.

LOL! I have already added my Flying Club details to our booking when requesting our seats and meals. Having just read about new levels of collection/redemption of flying miles on the Flying Club site, I'm quite hopeful that we will get some miles added, although I won't be losing any sleep if we don't. I think there's never any harm in having membership details of loyalty schemes noted and on view to check-in staff ;)

I was asking whether there's any need to contact the Frequent Virgin Club with details of our booking. Obviously there's no discount available because I didn't book through them, but are there any other reasons/benefits to letting the Frequent Virgin Club know we're taking this Virgin flight?

The FVC is only for Virgin Holidays, there is no need to let them know about flights not booked with them. You do get extras as the number of holidays booked goes up, but this is only for holidays booked direct with them from their brochures.

The best way to check if you will be eligible to receive FC miles is to check the fare class of your ticket. N, V, X, M and Q class tickets receive 100% mileage. Y, B and L class tickets receive 125% mileage. G, I, U, T, O and E do not earn any miles. The reason I said I didn't think you would earn miles is because I believed AirMiles being used as part-payment was generally for the cheaper ticket class fares.

There are no reasons to contact Frequent Virgin Club about the booking.

Thanks for that :) Looks like I can save myself a phone call.

The Flying Club website has the following details which come into effect on March 1st:

TO/FROM LONDON % OF BASE FLOWN MILES

DISCOUNTED ECONOMY (N*) 50%
ECONOMY (Y,B,L,M,Q,X,V,N*) 100%
PREMIUM ECONOMY (W,S,K,H) 150%
UPPER CLASS (J,D,Z) 200%
