Pirates & Blue Bayou Refurb

Pirates is still not showing as closed on 4/20. I suspect it either goes down on 4/27 or 5/4. We will find out next Monday!

Noteworthy that the Monorail, Roger Rabbit, Buzz, Jungle Cruise, Grizzly, and Toy Story are all still closed. Some of these are potentially long refurbs, particularly Grizzly.

I expect Pirates to go down in 5/4 since this is when Blue Bayou will close. I was not expecting Jungle Cruise to be such a long refurb.

I suspect the Monorail is down due to whatever work they are doing in/near the transportation hub.

Do you know what type of refurb is happening with Grizzly?

It is annual refurb but it going on much longer than normal. It is usually opens back up in March
I wonder if it's because they know Monsters Inc. will eventually be going offline and they want to keep Grizzly open longer next winter to compensate with ride capacity. Maybe they close it next winter, but for shorter than usual.

It could be long but Big Thunder said it would not be open until December then opened up right before the holidays started

So hopefully they just announce its back soon. Disney has been playing fast and loose with that calendar for the last year

I kind of suspect that will happen with Grizzly.

Wish that would happen with Jungle Cruise but not holding my breath on that.

That seems to be a new strategy starting mid-last year. Show a ride as closed and then suddenly open it several weeks earlier than expected.

It is better than putting a date on the calendar and then having to delay, I suppose. I would much rather expect a ride to be closed and have it be open than to expect it to be open and then it still be closed.

I don't disagree, but I would rather they were more honest and transparent about everything.

For example, let's go back to the discussion in this thread. They clearly have known for months when Pirates will be closed. Why not tell people in advance when it will be closed, instead of just 6 weeks?

I'm sure they're concerned about cancelled visits. I believe more transparency would win over more people than some potential lost trips in the short term.

I don't think the intention is to mislead the guests to prevent cancellation. I think it has more to do with the fact that they only have a certain number of CM that do attraction refurbs. Depending on what needs to be done, it may require CM with certain specialties. It is a domino effect. If one refurb takes longer, it can push the start date of another back. On the same note, if they finish earlier, they can start on the next project earlier. I think they leave a window of time not knowing exactly how things will pan out.

I mean

It would be nice to get more of a heads up but also Disney is much better at this then other parks

Knotts sometimes does it in advance but most of the time its like a week or two before
Universal studios doesn't say much for many of them, you have to follow people online or forums for information
Six Flags...lol. They just have rides down and unless someone knows why we don't know

But look at Monsters Inc not going down now, it feels like they might now know because of either short staffing or something else

It can be frustrating but Disney is the best at it compared to other theme parks
