Virgin flydrive

Hi .... I have read somewhere that people sometimes book Virgin flydrives but then don't pick up the car...is this because the insurance is costly and that a seperate hire car with another company can workout cheaper?

It's the only reason that I can think of.

Most of the time its cheaper not to take Virgins car but every booking needs to be checked.
For us we like a larger car than we would be allocated by Virgin and like to take gold/Platinum cover, expensive with Virgin. Not priced them up recently but last time I did for a 25 night rental they wanted about £700, did it myself for £400.
With other companies increasing premiums so much double check Virgin are not the cheapest option.
If you don't take Virgins car do not tell them, they will charge you an unpackaging fee.

We booked with Virgin a few months back and didn't add on car insurance as we thought their car would be too expensive compared to others.
When I started to look into booking a car about 6 weeks or so ago, i also looked at the virgin deal and was suprised when it came back more or less the same as others - about at £20 difference. Mind we are for the first time just going to get a standard compact car. So as we are going with them, we just rang Virgin and added the car on.
So, I would say shop around everywhere - including Virgin *** you may find their prices on par with everyone else.

Another reason why not to take the car is when booking a flydrive you can book as soon as the brochures come out and not wait until the normal 11 month window for flight only bookings. You also only have to pay a deposit and not the full flight cost in one go.

As a flydrive is classed as a package you are also fully ATOL covered.
