We have just returned from the World and planning next years which will be the last one in school holidays thankfully. At Easter virgin is asking £1145. OMG
So I know many of you do indirect flights a lot cheaper. Have you any advice which offer the best price service and comfort. Also which is the best airport to change at. :)

is that per person? economy?

Yes per person economy unbelievable !!!

No, not unbelievable, sadly. At least not anymore. 11 months out from our upcoming trip VA wanted insane amounts of money when I pulled up quotes. There were a few good better prices in the mix with M+M but not for our dates. We went with CO as they had the best price for our route on our chosen dates (I had already booked the Disney package) and the times were good for us too.

You really have to keep looking and shop around. You also have to decide whether, when comparing flight prices, you would rather save a few hundred pounds between two reasonable quotes or whether times, connection points etc are more important to you. I do believe that to get a good price you need to be as flexible and open minded as possible and keep checking and comparing constantly. There are deals to be had - they are just not as good or nearly as frequent as what they were a couple of years ago.

To answer your first question though, yes, for me DIY flights were MUCH cheaper!

Have you looked at BA? I've just started looking for flights for next year and they are coming out £500 per person cheaper than Virgin.

We booked Aer Lingus this time around, Glasgow > Dublin > Orlando. Flight timings were all good, no realy silly delays and the price was fair compared to some others. BA were our next choice, but we find that when anything goes wrong the Scottish flights are the 1st to be axed.

OMG is right!!!! that is totally unbelievable!!!!

If that shocks you Beth, then the few £3k pp economy prices that came up on searches for last August would have about killed you  There are times when I think VA is having a laugh :rolleyes1

We've paid £2220 for 3 adults & 1 child to fly US Airways during the Easter hols. It took two weeks of searching, sometimes numerous times each day, to find a price and connection we were happy with.

Best price I've seen for the dates we would want is £560 with US Airways (1 stop)...Virgin want double this :lmao:

We're not booking unless we see a REAL deal...I'll consider anything under £500. ;)

We have literally been priced out by these flights - we could afford it, but why should we? We can fly to Vegas for the same price as Orlando (despite it being a further 1000 miles) indirect (<£600), Rome for £70 each (admittedly a quarter of the distance, but wouldn't that make the Orlando trip a mere £280? ;)), and, for £150 LESS than the price that Virgin want to get us to Orlando, we can fly to Sydney, Australia....

A real shame, since I've visited four out of the last five years. Can't see us returning unless flight prices drop, now.

Unfortunately we cannot book until my DD timetable comes out in August. So we can keep looking and hope the prices do not go up. Very frustrating for me as I always like to have a holiday booked !!!

Am still waiting to see what the prices are for oct 2012 but they need to be £500 ish or we will go somewhere else. The more we keep paying these prices the
More they will out them up :-(

Hi

We are looking at next August and searched through travelsupermarket

Found Monarch to be cheapest, Gatwick to Sanford direct £494 per person, you have to add £40 for baggage plus £15 to pre-book seats but that's still only £549 which is about what we paid with Travel City 5 years ago and with Virgin 3 years before that.

Maybe worth taking a look?

I have booked VA flights with Pillenger for 2ad 1ch travelling on 13th Dec 2012 for 14nts for £1772. I booked these back in March as I was expecting them to be around £1800 based on 2011 prices, so I was happy.
No doubt I will check the prices in Jan just to make sure I did get the right price at the right time!!

Claire :)

I've never come across Pillinger, but your post has prompted me to look them up. They claim to be able to guarantee prices up to two years in advance with the payment of a low deposit. How much is that, Claire? I see they're ATOL bonded, but, as travel agents, shouldn't they also be ABTA bonded?

ETA: I've just been doing a bit more digging and, despite the headline claims on their home page, the small print states, Prices are only guaranteed for scheduled flight bookings once the final balance has been paid.

I keep singing the praises of this airline after we booked with them last year. Have booked again with them for this year and they were slightly cheaper than last year. However rather than going from Glasgow we booked to go from edinburgh.

The leg via dublin takes no time at all and you get to clear immigration at dublin as well. Customs still has to be done in orlando.

We took BA in 2009 and would not use them again unless they were much cheaper.

And I have never found virgin to be a good deal for us no matter how far in advance i looked.

I looked at Aer Lingus but they only fly certain days of the week and not the days we need. :sad1:
