If you book directly through virgin atlantic website you will get the e ticket to your email inbox. - sometimes if your flight is complicated and involves different airlines you may get a paper ticket- this is getting more and more rare now.

If you book through expedia say, its them that will email you the eticket, normaly its just the invoice stating the ticket numbers and flight details.

If you book through virgin holidays or a travel agent then they recieve the e ticket and will normally post it on to you.

All the eticket reciept does, is prove that the ticket has been generated in Virgin atlantics system. however virgin demand you have a copy of it when flying out from the UK to prove that you have a return ticket to satisfy the visa waver rules. Immigration in the USA are within their rights to ask if you have a return flight, or proof you will go home.
