Bit dubious about car hire booking as you hear so many stories about problems/hard sell/extra charges etc! :scared1:

I have been looking for our hire for a while now and Virgin have a really, really good deal on atm, for us, with extra driver (free for now) and sat nav, gold cover etc, it works out quite a lot cheaper to anything else I've been able to price up.

So, I'm thinking of booking which would mean paying up front.

Just really looking for reassurance that Virgin car hire is OK and that we will have an OK time with DCC. I am hoping we'll be able to use their free pick up service to and from DCC to OKW.

One final question, if there is an additional driver on the booking, does that person also need to be present to collect the car? Or is it enough to show their driving licence?

Thank you!

Alamo at Disney CCC are fine used them several times although we now prefer to collect from the airport as there is a bigger choice of companies.

With Alamo all additional drivers have to be present at collection as they have to sign the agreement too even spouses.

The only companies that an additional driver hasn't had to sign is when I have booked through Avis preferred or Hertz Gold both of which include a spouse for free. Every other time DH has had to sign be it dollar or alamo.

Thanks Tracy - I think we'll go for it as it's really good price compared to elsewhere. Not too bothered about what vehicle we get as it's for 6 of us anyway so there isn't a huge choice (and as we fly into Sanford there wouldn't be a huge choice there anyway), plus it's only for a few days and we aren't going too far so won't be in it for hours at a time.

One thing I am a little concerned about is the cancellation with Virgin. It says 'no cancellation fees' in the side ad on the web, but there is nothing at all about it in their t&cs? In fact when you proceed to book it does show their terms but this is blanket for holidays as well, so the only cancellation terms it mentions are the 'usual' holiday type of cancellation i.e. so many days before, certain % etc. It's a bit confusing and I'd really like to know what the actual terms for cars are. Think I might have to wait until Monday and call them :rolleyes2 Actually, I'll see if they are open tomorrow! :thumbsup2

you said ''gold cover''. Alamo gold s often viewed as an extra insurance coverage. It's not

Alamo gold = extra driver + tank of fuel, period

Try to price the care hire with the brits deal on alamo.co.uk/brits

You fly into sfb, why not pick up the car there ? Transfers from sfb are extortionate.
For 6 it will be around $250 return ...maybe more

Transfer will be $150 one way to Universal. We are staying there 3, possibly 4 days and would have the car just sitting there - we don't intend going anywhere else while there as we want to maximise the time there. There is also the $19 per day car parking charge to consider too. Plus DH doesn't want to drive from the airport when we first arrive - fair enough, it's not an issue for us.

Alamo brits £294, Virgin £180 - this was about a week or so ago but Virgin are doing free additional driver atm (which we wanted to book) so that is a reduced cost. No one else is coming near to Virgin price atm.
