We want to take a laptop with us this time on vacation, is this classed as one piece of hand luggage? Any Tips or advice on taking a laptop on a plane? Any help would be great.

According to the VA and the airport websites, yes it is classed as your one piece. I bought a laptop backpack with plenty storage space so I can take the laptop and still easily fit my cameras, some snacks, documents, a book or two, pens and paper ..... As long as the bag you have it in is within the dimensions and not more than 6kg, you are good to go.

I asked about this recently and got plenty good advice from the folk on here. you will need to take it out and put it into one of the trays going through security. You also need to make sure it is charged in case they ask you to boot it up. Hopefully the gurus will be here soon. :goodvibes

This is the previous thread. All info should be in there. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2482312&highlight=laptop

I am just considering buying a netbook, Matt and Karen will have their laptops but I have to wait until one of them goto bed before I can get on the net. Could take a 3rd laptop with us but the weight is a pain so might go for one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330449944783&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
Seems a good buy for £140. Windows 7 starter and good spec. Should be good enough to get on DIS.:goodvibes

Oooh, that is the best price I have ever seen for a netbook. I have toyed with the idea because, as you say, weight it an issue, so is space and bulk. The other thing is DD could probably do with her own at home now - I too have the wait-your-turn-even-though-it's-yours issue

They are supposed to be refurbs but they started with 1,000 of them, can't see them all being returns, I think its more of a stock clearance. Argos sell some stuff really cheap on their outlet site thru Ebay. They are still selling in their high st stores at £199.99 down from £249.99.
They also have the Samsung N130 for £10 more.

I did buy 2 Dell netbooks 18 months ago on their site at £249 each but they had a misprice, I got 2 at £99 each. tried using one at Fairfield Inn LBV but they ran on ubuntu, what i didn't know was at the time there was a connection issue with Marriot hotels service provider and this OS, just couldn't get it to connect. I sold them both and doubled my money:goodvibes

I've taken a laptop both in my cabin bag and as a separate bag (what they classed as a handbag).

You just need to take it out at security and put it through the scanner separately.

I don't actually have a problem with refurbs. I bought my camera off eBay. It is a refurb but I got it for about £40% of (yes of, not off) the high street price at the time and it is fantastic.

Was that a netbook or a full sized laptop? They are a lot more strict now about the reasonable size of a "handbag".

Samsung N130[/URL] for £10 more.

I can recommend the Samsung :thumbsup2
I have the N120 which I took to WDW last year, battery life is 8-9 hours with wifi turned off
nice bright screen and very compact. Pick up a small microsoft bluetooth mouse from Circuit City on OBT. Will be taking it again in a few weeks

I have a net book which we take away with us. It's much more convenient than using our giant Dell laptop!

Like others have said you just have to make sure that you get it out at security.

We've got a Asus notebook, in fact I'm on it now :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 can't remember how much DH paid for it, he's asleep next to me at the mo.

It will fit nicely into DH rucksack and we can use it when we get to WDW, it's got battery life of 9.5 hours, got free Wi-Fi at the villa:thumbsup2

I've had Virgin get funny a few times regarding handluggage allowance - always at Gatwick - it really depends on who you get there.

I've noticed they don't give a rats at MCO coming home though.
