hey all

i will be going in november but im a crazy planner :dance3:

we will be flying into gatwick airaport from belfast the night before we due to leave gatwick

i read somee were about twlight chck in but there was very little info

do you have to pay extra for twlight check in?
do you have to advance book it?
when does it open?
do you have to check in online before twlight check in?

i was thinking it would be nice to get rid of most of our luggage when we arrive in gatwick and just take our hand luggage to the hotel at gatwick and be able to skip chack in and head straight for the vroom before the flight out

Twilight check in will be open from 5pm to 9pm and is free to use.

You do not have to pre-book.

You can use OLCI prior to twilight or just use twilight check in totally up to you.

We use it every time we fly from LGW as its so convenient.

We did twilight check in last year and it's a quick and simple process. When you arrive at Gatwick, just head over to the Virgin check in desks, if memory serve me correctly, twilight check in is open from 4pm. You don't have to book it in advance and there is no fee. Don't check in online, they will do all of that for you when you get there. It's actually a really good benefit for travelling with Virgin (for other reasons, I will not use them again) because it saves you a ton of time in the morning.

Last year, we went from our hotel room to seated on the plane in about 40 minutes! We travel P.E. so we had the express security, walked straight through to the gate and on the plane. Definitely recommend you do it!

I disagree with this, if you have pre-booked seats and want to stand a better chance of keeping the seats you have pre-booked, then DO check in online. There are still no guarantees but once you have checked in online, there is less chance that they will move you to make way for other travellers.

Twilight check-in is actually open from noon. They have significantly extended the opening hours. From the VA website:

You can grab some extra sleep before an early flight thanks to our Twilight check in service. Available at Gatwick between noon and 9pm the day before you fly. Please note that everyone in your party will need to be present with their documentation for this option. Then turn up 50 minutes before boarding the next day with your boarding pass. It's that easy.

Im assuming you are staying over in a hotel near Gatwick the night before so dont forget you have to keep everything with you that you have not checked in so make sure you dont keep anything which you that isnt allowed in hand luggage eg toiletries.
Ive done this a couple of times but not with Virgin and a tip is to wear old PJs/underwear/socks etc the day before so you can just then bin them and not have to carry them with you in hand luggage.

Also dont forget when you check in you will probably have to take your hand luggage with you as well as they often want to weigh it /check the size etc

The virgin website is out of date, as of 1st May twilight check in is open 5pm to 9 pm. Before then it opens at noon.

Yes I thought I'd heard that as well because I remember thinking that I would do on line check in instead, where as normally I am at Gatwick by 12 to do twi-light check in. They really should update their website though.:)

We do twilight check in at 12pm which is pretty much the time online check in opens so we don't bother but if you are worried about it you can.

Yeah, that came out wrong... What I meant was you don't HAVE to check in online because you can do it at twilight check in, but there is no reason not to. I guess that will really depend on your flight times and stuff flying to Gatwick though, because it might not be convenient or possible to do the online check in if you're travelling to Gatwick.
