The VIP badge (The purple circle) means that they have been on the VIP tour at one of the real parks, be it Disneyland or Walt Disney World. When you take the tour you get a card with a code, the code gives you the badge. (The tour is no longer given, so the only way to get the badge now is to try and trade for the code.)
The gold badge with the 1 on it means that, that person has been playing VMK since the days of beta. Meaning they have been playing VMK since it started some where around May of "05.
The castle badge, means that that persons, virtual person was made in the real world parks (DLR or WDW). Along with the badge you also get more rooms, and black Mickey ears.

Just a few minor corrections:
Even though you got the code for the VIP badge on the same card that previously allowed you to take the tour, you did not have to actually take the tour to get the card. All you previously had to do was complete all the quests correctly.
The "1" badge came from being on VMK from beta or the first day of it's public release. This could have been as late as the end of June.
Besides what you listed as additional items received by Born-In-Park characters, you also get a green turnstile and more tops (t-shirts) this way.
