VIP Cleaning

Now I'm wondering if I should request a more thorough cleaning. DS has asthma and some food (and environmental) allergies. He always ALWAYS gets sick when we are on vacation. I never realized that I could request a more thorough cleaning of our room to help him. I don't think we need it to the extent that a PP described. But certainly, a thorough cleaning, fresh linens/bedspreads and changed air filter might actually help him from getting so sick.

We are staying in the FW cabins for our next visit. Has anyone requested a more thorough cleaning there?

You have the issue of kids rubbing the hands down the handrails/queue rails, and handle bars of the different rides and eating or putting hands in or touching their mouths...then they pick up cold/flu germs which can enduce asthma flare ups/attacks. Your son is probably having problems due to that...not the cleanliness of the room.

Plus the humidity in Florida is much higher than in a lot of the parts of the country. Here in KY, it's AWFUL and it is very bad for allergies and asthma, so it should be the same if not worse in Orlando.

I wish the mod's never allowed VIP Cleaning to be mentioned anywhere outside of the Disability Board, sorry. It's unfortunate that now this vital medical service offered to those with skin/breathing disabilities WILL be abused.

Our DD has SEVERE allergies, asthma, and eczema. With the machine's/steroid creams/med's, we must always be sure to keep on top of it consistently. We enjoy traveling and staying in various hotels. We also stayed in the rustic FtW cabins and saw our share of a few cobwebs (that doesn't mean filthy). She's has major flare up's indoors, outdoors...doesn't matter. The fact that WDW is several states away/foreign climate definitely has it's affects. I bring her treatments, check the air filter, bedding, wipe-down, and bring houseshoes/socks to walk on floors. We have never requested a VIP clean anwhere. If the room should appear to be causing flare-up's, then and only then would I ask for a VIP clean.

My point is:

There are guest's with high-risk medical conditions needing VIP cleaning at all hotels. They know who they are and I appreciate that they have these services offered to them.

To those with allergies/asthma/eczema/etc: PLEASE test out a room before requesting a time consuming sterilization be done.

To those with no medical conditions just wanting a free sterile room: Use some courtesy and bring some Clorox wipes.

I want to thank parents for writing about VIP cleaning. It opened my eyes. When I first heard about it I thought about getting it. I have asthma, which can come on quickly when I am inside a place that sets me off. I have a machine for breathing treatments when it is bad. But I have it under control most of the time with a couple of daily medicines I take. After reading all your comments I realize there are those who have a great need for the VIP service, where I am not so severe. I would never want to hurt the future of this program for those of you with these precious children who suffer so. Thanks from the bottom of my heart for making us aware of the problem that can develop with using it when not needed. For those who need it, I am glad it is there for you.

Just wanted to let the parents know that there is hope with the allergies.

When our older son was younger, we had to rip out all of the carpeting and drapes in the house. He could only sleep on 100% natural cotton sheets - the off white because he could not be exposed to the chemicals used to whiten the sheets.
We could only mop with water and dust the furniture with a cloth-no Pledge, etc.
The tubs were washed with water and wiped with a towel.
The foods he could not eat would take pages.
Once he had an allergic attack during my niece's dance revue and we had to rush to the ER. He had gone with her earlier in the day to a friend's house and they had owned a cat- a few years before.

The ER was our 2nd home and I used to joke that the pediatrician could just rent us a room in the clinic. He also had exercise induced asthma on top of the asthma because of his other alleriges. It was so bad that the pediatrician sent us to have him tested for CF.

Once he got to 8th grade, he began to play football with his inhaler on the sidelines if he needed it. By the time he graduated high school, he no longer needed his inhaler and today at almost 34, he has no more problems- not 1 allergy.

My hope for your children is that they can eventually overcome their difficulties like my son has.

I agree that this type of service should be reserved for those who truly need it, but I think the title "VIP cleaning" suggests its something else. When I first heard about a vip cleaning, I thought gee I have allergies, maybe I should ask for one. Disney ought to rename this type of cleaning to something like "Medical Necessity Cleaning" , so that it would be clear to the common person that it isn't a service for just anyone.

Yes, this is the most salient point. It shouldn't be called "VIP" cleaning...VIP means Very Important Person. Every Disney guest is a very important one.

There are those that have special needs, however. So call it "Special Needs Cleaning" or something.

I don't understan why some people on this thread are getting their panties all in a bunch and saying some disers are entitled Blah, Blah, Blah. Take a chill pill people. I read this thread and my son has allergies and I get chronic sinus infections but I never thought "Oh boy I am going to call and order the VIP cleaning." Someone could have gone to the disabilities board and read the same thing.

I thought the dis boards were to educate people about all things Disney. The VIP cleaning is something Disney offers to people who are in need of such services due to certain medical needs. It has been made more than clear on this thread what it is for and about and people who were confused have been educated; now relax and take a chill pill or something.

Respectfully, I disagree. I think saying you should just 'try it first' to see if it is needed is not always good advice. In some cases it is (maybe you only get few hives or itchy eyes or sneeze up a storm when exposed to something) but in other cases (where even a single reaction could lead to 'the worst') the wait and see if it happens idea is really not a good one (in my humble opinion).

In short, I wish I had read about what was available BEFORE we encountered a problem. I could have made the decision to ask for it (or not) based on my son's medical needs and what I knew to be available. I never dreamed that Disney (or any other company) would be so wonderful with accommodating a need that requires so much effort on their part. I am very grateful for the special services that Disney provides to our family to accommodate my son's medical issues.

The extra steps that Disney takes to ensure that every guest possible can come to Disney and experience the magic is a big part of why my family returns again and again. I hope reading about a service offered might help someone else with medical needs to be able to safely enjoy a vacation.

I do agree with you however, this discussion might better take place on the disABILITIES board, every time I see VIP Cleaning discussed I always hope that it reaches someone who really needs it but doesn't get taken advantage of by those who do not. Since the sole reason for needing to request this service should be a medical one, it is most topical (I think) on that board.

Everyone should get a clean room. It's such a shame that one must fill out a form saying, "I want a clean room that is CLEAN" and/or pay extra to get that.

If people claim to need VIP cleanings when there is no medical condition - which, of course, they will - then Disney will either have to clean all the rooms on a regular basis or do a LOT of cleaning up from not having done so.

I'm thinking this "abuse" will work out well for everyone.

My comments about "please test out a room" was NOT directed at those in high-risk/life/death situations but rather my type (chronic asthma/eczema/allergies, managed and treatable).

DD is only 8 and suffered since infancy. She's had attack's everywhere/anywhere, even in our clean home. We've never requested VIP Cleaning and been fine so far...knock on wood. There are situation's where the onset will be obvious and times it has caught us totally off guard. Indoors, outdoors, a hotel room...doesn't matter. Obviously, I am most concerned about the service being abused when there's a dire service need to those with reaction's so lethal that just one touch/taste/breath will send their immune systems into a devastating overdrive.

Perhaps my opinions don't make a lick of sense so take them for what their worth, just an opinion. Thank's for agreeing with me on the better fit for Disabilities Board discussion...Blessings

You're welcome! The doctors seemed to think that playing sports helped his lungs. I don't know that this would work for everyone but it appeared to help my son.

Everyone gets a clean room. Even if you find a jelly bean on the floor or behind the couch, your room at WDW is still much cleaner than the vast majority of hotels around the country (ie. the Country Inn & Suites where my DD's socks were BLACK after just about an hour in the room...EWWWW!)

The "VIP" cleaning form is requesting a room that is as close to medically sterile that a hotel can hope to get, not just a clean room.

This thread and others like it have only been read by the tiniest fraction of all guests who visit WDW...even if all of us who have read it reqested the VIP cleaning, it would hardly be a dent noticed by mousekeeping. And from the tone of this thread I don't think the people here will do that.

Personally I think this has been beaten into the ground and this thread should be closed. All helpful information has already been discussed. Just my opinion...

Please don't flame me on this. For those of you who have or will be requesting the "VIP" cleaning due to "severe allergies", how do you handle being in the theme parks everyday during your vacation? It just seems to be impossible to remove surface contaminants.

I haven't requested VIP cleaning, but I have pretty severe dust mite allergies. Outside at a theme park is not a problem for me at all (I do have some tree pollen allergies, but not as bad). Any bedroom - and especially the bed - is one big allergen though. And then I lay down on and basically stick my face into a pile of allergens for 8 hours straight. There's not really any other place on vacation where I would take an allergen and basically inject it into my face for hours on end.

We used to bring plastic mattress covers and my son's sheets and pillowcases with us and also his plastic encased pillow from home. That made traveling possible.
