For those who have been there...Do you have any recommendations on tours, drivers, etc to use. We are not sure what to do this day. We have been told that Monaco is a waste of time. What's your opinion? We would love to try to find an umbrella on a great beach for at least an hour. Any ideas are appreciated.

Monaco is NOT a waste of time, lots to see, you can get there by train from villefrance, I have booked private tours there, twice, going to Monaco, but also Eze, and Nice, you Aldo can get to Anyibes and Cannes.

Follow the links for Villfrance here, http://mickeymed.blogspot.co.uk/ I lost my private tours and also have photos.

The following is the beach there, the tender dock, ( near the top/ left- red roofed building before what looks like an old castle) and train station with a photo of the Magic. You will see an easy walk.

Both times we have been there, we have toured on our own. The first time, we caught the train to Monaco and visitted the aquarium there. Just up the hill is a beautiful park and then the palace where you can see the changing of the guards. You can catch the little train right in front of the aquarium and take a little tour down to the casino in Monte Carlo. You can either stay on or get off and explore before catching the next one.

On our second visit my husband and I took a taxi up to Eze. You can do it by bus as well, but by the time we tendered we did not want to waste any more time. Note that taxis are quite expensive here.

There is a lovely little beach to the right of where you tender at the end of the promenade. We had some friends who stayed in Nice for a week and spent a lot of time at the beach in Villefranche.

We have met many people who also take the train in to Nice on their own. We have not done that yet, and we heard from some cruisers that it seemed "dirty". Not sure about that. :)

Villefranche is a quaint little town, and you may just want to explore it on your own as well. Enjoy your cruise, and your day in Villefranche!

I took a bus (1.5 euro each way) into Nice and wandered around on my own. They also have a "train tour" much like the Conch Train Tour in Key West that takes you all around with a 10-20 minute stop at the "castle" which gives you amazing views. That was 10 euro I think.

Villefrance is beautiful! We did the train ourselves, really easy and plenty of other cruisers doing the same thing
