Villas has changed the Beach Club

marymrg,
Yeah, I shouldn't have used the KOA campground comparison, but Grand central station isn't appropriate either because, there aren't many unsupervised children running around a train station. Probably the DNC would've been better.

Ducklike,
I just guessed about the number.

Oooh, you like to troll, huh, 10drum? Rile up a few more folks while you are at it.

I don't own at BCV - (wish I did) - but I am also a DVC owner - and believe me - BCV has it own lobby - after check-in - I really didn't go back to the BC lobby. the breezeway and the drawing room are part of BCV not BC.

if you bus service is better - go blame the DVC members who are paying part of the annual fees to the WDW transportation system.

Deb&Bill, sometimes I have a little too much fun.

Spiceycat, I walked through the Villas and there is a couple gathering areas but nothing that seemed to be attended. I think most check-ins are through the front desk at the BC. I also noticed more staff checking guest in, then in our previous visits.

Most people who have read this post didn't notice that I said we had a wonderful time(maybe the best ever). I just observed more activity in the lobby this year, and wondered if it was because of the villas.

all the check in are at one area - at BCV it is the BC - at VWL it is at WL - at BWV it is at BWV.

this area has always been crowded at check in. I use to stay at the BC back in the 90's - before WL was built. One time we had a hour wait to get check in -so the crowds were there even then.

of course nothing beats the YC - 2 hour to get check in - they had lost our reservation - glad I brought my reservation confirmation.

mirlow, I'm sorry if you think I've shown disrespect.

If I have offended anyone, I appologize.

Without offering an opinion on this thread, I sometimes like to have fun on these boards too. One person's gentle teasing is another person's disrespect, and the electronic format tends to mask people's meaning. So one has to be careful, but that doesn't mean you can't have fun.

Totally agree, and some need to get their feelings off their sleeves, it's just someone's opinion of a resort. ::yes::

Personally I think the biggest change has been in that DVC at BC is very popular and therefore almost year round is going to be at or near capacity. I think that adds a lot more people to the resort that in other years at certain times would not have been present. Even though BCV has 275 villas, some of those have an occupancy of 8 and that is only if they are rule abiding guests staying there. :)

It would be totally unrealistic to say that the addition of these units and the people in them has had no effect on the resort especially since the public areas, main pool, restaurants were not enlarged when the extra numbers were added. I feel the WL was affected the same way.

If you visited the YC/BC before BCV was built at an off season it was at times very quiet due to not many people being there. This is not to say that the DVC has brought in an unsavory or even rowdy element, it simply means DVC brought in more guests. More guests equals more noise and more people in the lobby and other areas.

As a DVC member I saw no offense given by the OP simply stating things had changed. Unless you were there before and after not sure you can compare.

For the record I could care less about someone's opinion on a resort (well I do like to hear what people have to say). In fact I would have to agree on 10drum's opinion on the BC (not about the people but the size;) ). That is why we changed our reservation. I was commenting on another statement that was made as well.
erikthewise brings up a good point. When you are online you don't know if someone is trying to have fun or just being impudent.

I appreciate the apology and let's move on

:wave2:

I am with Deb and Bill on this one.

You were surprised at the lack of serenity at the Beach club resort in the Month of July?

Surely you jest?

Disney in July, does not evoke serenity. Try September or better yet January.

To compare DVC owners to KOA campground vistors is very insulting. and glaringly illustrates a lack of understanding on what is required to own DVC. Are you aware it is generally a minimum 15,000 dollar investment to purchase the minimum number of points? Plus your yearly dues. I can assure you most DVC owners own more than the minimum and take great pride in thier home reosrts.

I am a BWV owner who always watches my children and even knows not to pick my teeth in the beach Club Lobby.::yes::

It was inevitiable that the opening of the DVC resort at BCV would change the BC/YC atmostphere forever. Just no way around it. There likely are people that have vowed never to stay there again with this change. But it was Disney's decision to add that option and make that change, not the DVC owners. And it's likely DVC guests at BCV will have a higher percentage of children than the average BC/YC visitor. And adding another 208 units, many of which are 2 BR; certainly will add traffic and congestion to all amenities at the resort. But I do think I know what the OP meant and believe it was not intended as a slam to DVC or the members even though it came across as such.

How is being disrespectful amusing:confused:
As a DVC owner, and guest of BCVs, I have to say lighten up, will ya? The lobby's got to be busier, it isn't that outlanding a comment. Hay, try hanging out in the BWV lobby during a check in rush, it's pretty darn busy too. And, there are some parents who let thier kids run too wild and provide too little supervision, face it.

Now, that doesn't happen to include myself and my wife of course. We really like the pools at the BC and YC. We can just leave our kids off at the pools, even though they are very young, and then go and enjoy the parks and activities for ourselves. The lifegaurds at the pools keep an eye on them for us. It's great. We're able to go several hours, have many, many drinks, take a nap, and head back to the pool to pick them up later. It would be nice if someone at the pool was able to change the baby's diapers while we are out, but I guess you can't have everything. Even if they've had terrible behavior, nobody really bothers us about it, hay, the yelling, screaming, throwing objects and disturbances are just kids being kids, whether it's the quiet pool or other pools. You've got to have the loud ringing sound of "Marco - Polo" to make it a real vacation, no matter how long the game goes on. It's so cute when the cids scream that at teh top of thier lungs. If they throw some food around, or make a mess, even if it gets in the pool, it works out because we don't have to clean it up, after all, kids will be kids. You can't really get that kind of free baby sitting and cleaning at the KOA campgrounds we've stayed at. KOA won't always let you have your dog with you either, and we haven't had any trouble getting our dog into the room at BC from the parking lot. Eventually staff gets around to picking up after the dog out on the lawn, but it's usually not right away. We try to avoid that area after our dogs been out. You don't expect me to do that, do you? I don't at KOA when they let us in. Well, I've got some trailer repair to work on in our double-wide, better sign off. I also ought to try to find out where the kids are and at least get them out of the street, the little one needs his bottle and weekly bath. Happy posting.

"come on and listen to a story about a man named Jed, a poor mountainer barely kept his family fed, and then one day he was shooting at some food......."

Have to disagree here.

We have one child, who's 18.

Of our friends/relatives who own DVC:

Cousin, single woman, no kids.
Cousin, married couple with two older teenage kids.
Friend, single woman, with grown son, no grandkids.
Friend, married, with grown kids, no grandkids.
Friend, married, with grown kids, one infant grandchild.
Friend, married with two kids.
Friend, single man, no kids.

Looks to me like there are a lot of adults and very few kids in the mix. The four times we've had a two bedroom, it's been split 50/50 between having family with kids and having adult family or friends in the second bedroom.

I'm quite certain that the demographic mix between the villas and standard rooms is within a percent or two of being evenly matched.

I must agree with some of the previous posts.

BC / BCV's lobby is far to busy, not the place for a vacation. What I suggest is that most move to other quite, laid back, kid free, adult non-KOA like Resorts.

Please do it quick so I can get a reservation for October since there is nothing at this time. Who would have thought that all those kids go for the Food and Wine Festival.
And while your at it November and December are not looking good either.

My OP is "Villas has changed the BC".

When I made the ressies this year, my biggest concern was how the villas affected SAB. I didn't notice much difference(at SAB) from previous visits. I just noticed a loss of that disney resort serenity. I don't know if that is bad or not, just different. This observation comes from a middle aged man who likes to sit by the childrens area, in the lobby, and watch the disney cartoons with all the other kids(my children are teenagers now). One evening, while waiting to meet up with the rest of my family, I was watching a Donald Duck/Chip & Dale cartoon and a young girl about 6 came and sat down, and we watched it together. while her parents were checking in.

Some of the people who read this post automatically took offense to it. All I did is make an observation. Unsupervised children don't really bother me. Children who misbehave, while unsupervised, does bother me. Unsupervised children isn't what this post was about.

Our next visit will probably be to the YC, because I did miss that serenity. I have always felt the atmosphere of the resort was part of the disney magic. Maybe the hustle and bustle of the BC is part of the magic for someone else.

Thanks to everyone who replied to this post.

I didn't notice a change at WL ...at all!
Last Nov was our 5th stay at WL and the first one since the villas opened.........Not that much of a change , to me.I just love the fact that I can use the Villas' Exercise room!!:D

I agree with the person who said.....

BC + July= Serenity?????

Just remember, a few bad apples can ruin everything. I remember staying at AKL a few years ago & every morning ONE family would allow there kids to run & scream all the way down the hall (we were toward the end of the "horse shoe" so it's a llllooooonnnnnggggg hallway) to the lobby, you could hear them coming & you could hear them going. They would do this every morning between 7:30-8:00. I had a great trip to the AKL, but this is a very vivid memory for me, I would not allow my kids to do this, especially so early in the day. This is very well what the OP may have experienced, one or two families who allow their kids to run wild & misbehave can easily seem like more. Wild, unattended children can fill up a room really fast, even a looby @ WDW resort. Just keep in mind that if you go in July, there will be more people & probably a few more unattended children. Hopefully your next trip will be better, we went last October, the resort was to capacity, but still seemed very calm.

I was at YC just a few weeks ago. I have to agree with 10drum. The BC area is much more crowded than it used to be. Yes, it was July, but YC had absolutely no lobby congestion during my visit. My DW likes Cape May and the BC lobby. We stayed there in the late 90's and she has fond memories of the place. She even commented on how much more hectic it was there compared to the YC.

I also think people need to lighten up. 10drum was just giving his observation about the LOBBY. He never said a bad word about DVCers. However, some DVCers seem to look down upon KOA visitors.
