I was thinking of maybe staying in a studio on my next trip, but since I am not a DVC member, how does this work? Is it more expensive than staying in the actual resort? Can you buy points from people & how much does that cost? I'm an annual passholder. Do they offer any discount rates? Any help would be great!!

A villa is more expensive than a regular room, but you also get a small fridge and a microwave at no additional cost. You also get free use of the washer/dryer if I am not mistaken.

Renting from a DVC member will be your best option. You typically pay anywhere from $10-$13 per point ($10 is most frequent), but you don't have to pay any resort taxes (which is 11% in most cases). Post over on the DVC Rent/Trade Board, your dates, that you are interested in a studio and if you have a resort preference.

Actually I don't think washers and dryers are standard in studios, but they have on site washers and dryer for use.
Check out the DVC boards for more help.

Just thought I'd throw my experience in here....It's not always cheaper to rent points rather than reserving through WDW. At our current discount, I'm paying approximately $300 less for our 5 day stay at a 2 br OKW villa than I would have renting points. An additional bonus is that you get full housekeeping services when making regular reservations, plus cancellation and reservation changes are more liberal than when renting points.

It pays to check both ways, both in costs and benefits.
