Hi Folks,
Just a quick question about our villa pool.
We're staying in a villa just off 192 for three weeks starting 17th May. Do you think we need the pool heating, or will it be warm enough without:confused:
Don't fancy freezing my..........................................Anyway what do you think?

It's going to be expensive to have the heating on for the whole time you're there, so I would suggest even if it's needed that you try to plan so that you have maybe the middle week or 10 days heated ( if needed) and use the parks and other things in the meantime. I've found that usually at that time of year it isn't needed , but I'm fairly hardy and don't mind the cold too much.

Most villa rentals offer pool heating as an extra - doesn't that mean it's on all the time vernon? I'd presumed it does - maybe one of our villa owners here knows.

We've gone for a villa with a solar heated pool (ie no extra £75/£100 per week) so the sun better shine ;)

We always pay to have the pool heated whatever time of year we go. We've found that we tend to use the pool more when the water's warm! Although you do get used to it once you're in, we always find the water freezing to get into, even in the Florida sun. But then we are Southern softies. ;)

You shouldn't need the pool heating on in May. I've been to Florida a few times at the beginning of May and have never needed the pool heating on. I now own a villa and know that the pool heating is expensive to run. I charge an extra $100 a week for pool heating.

i don't think you'll need the pool heated in May. we've been in May & didn't have pool heating infact it never occured to us at that time of year.

The water was always warm never cold. It was warmer after a days sun but never cold.

Hi Neil,

It really does depend on whether the extra expense would be worth it for you. Heating a pool with an electric pool heater (as opposed to solar heating) costs a fortune and this cost is obviously passed on to you (we charge £75 per week and believe me, this is not profit!)

Consider how much you will be using the pool and when. If you are planning to spend all day in the parks and then use the pool in the evenings pool heating may be a worthwhile option as the water can cool off during the evenings and overnight. If you are planning to return and use the pool during the afternoons then the heating probably wouldn't be required as the sun heats the water during the day. If you get a couple of days rain then the water will be noticeably colder.

If you have a pool cover for the pool then make sure you use it every night to keep in the heat stored in the water during the day. That way you should keep the pool at a more constant temperature.

Your villa should be managed by a local company who will be able to switch the heating on for you if you change your mind once you get out to Florida so it may be worth a 'wait and see' (note that it usually takes 24 hours for the pool to heat up though)

Either way, have a great holiday.

Check the details your owner has given you as sometimes it is more exspensive to pay for pool heat once you have got to your villa than it is to pay before you go.I recommend my guests consider pool heat between october - april .Usually no one bothers in may.

Thanks Everyone:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
I think we'll try it with no heating and see how it goes, at £75.00 a week it all makes the holiday that bit dearer. Anyway we come from Buxton so we ought to be hardened to the cold:( :( :(
Thanks again everyone, only 27 days to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Neil
