I would go for the villa ! So much more space and kids loved the private swimming pool. Facilities in a villa is so much better, you get your own washing machine and dryer to do the laundry. You have full kitchen facility to cook if you wanted to. Much more relaxed than in a small hotel room. Just be sure to choose a villa that is close to the parks and you will be fine.

With that size group, I'd rent a villa. We just rented a 5 bedroom house with a pool in Indian Creek for $102/night inclusive of taxes (pool heat is extra). We're a group of 6 adults and 2 kids. We actually are staying for 10 days for less than it would cost us for a week at an onsite value.

For us, it's important for the kids to have their own space. Ours are little (2 and 4), so having some space for adult time after 7;30pm is VERY nice

We have stayed in both. More recently at Christmas we stayed at POFQ for 5 nights and then moved to Windsor Palms for 14 nights. We are a party of 3 and I much prefer the villa, I just like the extra space and quietness of the villa. Having said that my DD loved POFQ and the theming / pool area so we got the best of both that time

Are you trying to determine whether to stay on site or off? If so, don't base your decision on time to get to the entrance of a park.

There are MANY off site condos for 8+ people that are right across the street from the WDW boundaries. I think that staying at one of these resorts is actually easier to get to - you drive your own car to the parking lot and vioila, you are there.

Depending on which on-site resort you are staying at will determine how many transfers you have to make to get to your desired park each day. Can definitely take at least an hour.
