Villa confusion

I am a little confused, are they offering the vacation villas to the general public if DVC members are not booking them? I would really like to stay at Beach club villas if possible. Any info or guidance greatly appreciated in advance.

Yes, you can book them just like a regular hotel room at WDW- part of a package or room only. Discount codes can be applied if available.

I believe you can only book them about 8-10 months in advance. And some of them are sold out much quicker than others. Wilderness Lodge and Beach Club Villas go fast. Saratoga Springs is usually the easiest to get.

DVC retains about 3-5% of the total villas to use for backup/maintenance/whatever. DVC members occasionally will use their points for stays outside of DVC resorts. The points they used (the accomodations that the points represent) are turned over to CRO to sell to recoup the cost of the DVC member's stay outside of DVC. In addition, when a member sells points and DVC takes them back through Right of First Refusal, Disney has increased inventory until they sell the points.

We've stayed there a few times and are not DVC members. I actually just made reservations again for a visit starting 1/31 and was able to get a 2 bedroom with a Florida resident discount.

When I call CRO they say that they aren't booked--but that they aren't even an option--that they haven't been opened up.

When do the rooms get released? I don't want to miss out on getting a villa. Any advice?

IF there is any availability, BCV is VERY popular with members, you might see some by the end of the month. DVC members have a priority booking window from 11 - 7 months in advance, depending on your home resort. So, with us getting close to 7 months out, you might see something in the next month or so. A word of advice, if you're trying to get into BCV during Food and Wine, don't hold your breath, any of the DVC's along the Boardwalk is virtually impossible for members (those who can't book at 11 months), to find anything let alone to have anything left for cash ressies......

I just called CRO and the villas have not yet been released for our trip. We are arriving the first weekend in September.

I'll try again at the 7-month mark.

I wanted to let you know that we just got not just a reservation, but an AAA discounted rate ($473.35/night, including tax) for a 1-BR villa at BWV for Thanksgiving week via Small World Vacations. The reservation was finalized Friday. You might want to try that route.

Oh my! How can that be when CRO won't give me a room?

I posted on another thread and someone thought maybe cash ressies (not points) were not available until 2 months out.

LOL...if I had a nickel for every time a Disney reservations snafu apeared, we'd be staying at the super-swanky suite at teh GF or AKL for a year. You'd all be invited. We'd drink champagne and eat canapes when not riding rides, and Mickey would be there to hang with us.

I was frankly a bit surprised - the rates on the AAA site were not discounted, but villas were available - I emailed the agent, and she got a better (AAA discounted) rate.

I'd suggest that you either (1) call CRO again and ask about BWV as well or (2) try using Small World Vacations, maybe - I am not a huge fan of using an agent, since I like to HAVE COMPLETE CONTROL at all times - but they were able to do this. As for a quote, you can always go through CRO later if you can't get what you want via the agent.

good for you! i am keeping my eye open for a one bedroom at AKL villas (even though i already have a room) alot of people have said they always give dvc first shot at them at around 11 months but i was told i could get one at the end of the month (for dec) so i dont know if EVERYONE sticks to the dvc first rule.

I don't like using agents either--must be a control thing but I could try CRO again & see what is going on.

I doubt it!! I will tell you that the only reason we HAVE AAA is for Disney World and DL discounts (since we do a few days here, a few days there, it makes more sense than buying an AP, and code rates? You can't rely on them...). Even with a 3-day stay, it pays for itself. You can get the quote/reservation, then get a single person membership before your trip. Call CRo and ask about both/either.

I hope you get what you're after!! Like I said, I was really surprised, didn't think those rates would come up for a while.

I have booked through Disney using the AAA rate a few times. We usually travel in off times and usually don't have too much trouble finding a 1 bedroom. 2 Bedrooms seem always much harder to get. I like the added room plus the large bedroom and washer and drier. We have been able to book 1 bedrooms for under $400 a night.

Don't forget the DVC board here at the dis. You can rent points from owners and they can book earlier. It is a trust thing- you have to feel comfortable with someone else being in "control" of your reservation- but there are feedback pages and many have references. Might be worth checking out.
