Viewing Courthouse records

I am very interested in reading what happened in a local civil suit last Thursday at our courthouse. Can anyone go and read the transcripts- or do you pay for a copy? Are they available this soon?

It is public record. All you have to do is request a copy and they should be able to let you see one Although--not sure how soon they come out...No harm in trying!

Sometimes they're not always public record. Some things are under seal, some hearings are in camera (private). Most court reporters don't type out transcripts unless requested by the court or one of the attorneys involved. And the attorneys have to pay. And it usually takes weeks, or even months. At least that's how it is for federal cases. I work for the Dept of Justice, and that's been my experience.

I was a court reporter in my former life and katelyannsauntie is right, court transcripts are only typed out when ordered by an attorney. So, if the transcript is not ordered, you will not be able to read it.

Ahhh, I'm confusing court records and transcripts I think I've been working on this family law homework a little too long...I'm getting all confused!!!
