Hi all,
I am looking for a restaurant that will permit a non-DFTW reception that would be close enough to see the Wishes Fireworks.
OR any kind of solution to have a non-DFTW and see the Wishes fireworks with my wedding group (and me still being in my wedding dress)!...
thanks!

You could make a regular group dining reservation at any of the MK-area resort restaurants that have a view of Wishes—there's no prohibition on wearing wedding attire at the resorts.

However, if you wanted a private event, the only private rooms with views of the show are those at California Grill. And if you try to book a wedding-style event at one of those, they will refer you to DFTW. If you just booked a regular dinner party you could show up in your wedding dress and no one would care. It's when you start talking about having a DJ or a wedding cake that they clam up and transfer you to DFTW.

Alternatively, you could do a private event at the Wave or (if your group is small enough) the Chef's Table at Citricos and then walk out someplace to see the fireworks. OR you could talk to Private Dining at the Grand Floridian about doing a private dinner on their balcony, depending on how large your group will be. OR you could book the Grand 1 Yacht (18 people max) or a few pontoon boats and do a Wishes cruise in your wedding attire.

Hope this helps!

Ok thanks!

So my options would be to have a ceremony eith the cake and then have the reception at California Grill private rooms without DJ? I'm guessing we can have a ipod running? Do I mention that I'll be wearing my dress?

Or see with GF for something for 50 people? Cake invited?

There will be a new restaurant at the four Seasons, opening in July, that will have a view of wishes.

Are you doing an Escape wedding or something at the Swan or Shades of Green? Because those all usually come with a cake-and-Champagne reception right after the ceremony.

You can pay for an iPod setup at California Grill but, again, like getting a DJ, this may tip them off that you're trying to have a wedding reception without going through DFTW. Same with asking about the dress. It's a fine line....

Well, I don't want to arrive at California Grill and be returned... lol I'd rather be clear.

thanks for the tip for the Four Season,s hopefully it will not be monopolized by DFTW.

So yeah, I am absolutely not having a DFTW because I just hate wasting money. As previously said, even my mother in law's Disney rep (she owns a travel agency) told us that it's not worth the money...

Sooo.... I'm either hoping for the Four Seasons OR these are some places I can see the Wishes fireworks without having a DFTW:
- Polynesian beach
- At the TTC at MK

I heard that the Dessert party for Wishes isn't that great.

From someone that had both a DFTW and a Wishes dessert party, I think that every cent we spent was extremely worth the money and our guests had the time of their lives. It's now been 6 months since our wedding, and it's all our guests can talk about.

Although it might not be for everyone, or you in particular, I think it's a little insulting to call it a waste of money especially on this board where so many of us did have a DFTW. I don't know if your mother in law's Disney rep had a DFTW, but if she personally didn't have one, then I don't think she knows whats worth and not worth the money to some people.

Also...the Wishes Dessert Party was an incredible experience...we did ours at the GF Marina. Although it might not be an illuminations DP where you're right next to the fireworks, I would do the Wishes DP again in a heartbeat. It was one of the best moments of our wedding, and holds sentimental value also since my now husband proposed near that spot as well.

Sometimes money isn't everything...especially when a Disney wedding is truly a dream come true for some of us...

Thank you for saying this CMA21---I could not have said it better. I also realize everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect that. But having planned with my daughter for her DFTW Wishes wedding the past year we are so excited to see it's so close now----and at this point, I cannot imagine it won't be worth the money spent. We also do not feel like we're wasting money. We feel like we're investing in once-in-a-lifetime memories.

I do hope PoshMeld has the perfect wedding for her, but I would never insinuate that anyone else's plans for their personal wedding dreams was a waste or not worth it. All the best :goodvibes

Hello all, i am sorry if I have insulted anyone here. It was not my intention at all and I truly feel bad.

I just think that Disney should review their wedding packages to cater more types of wedding sizes. I have seen alot of ladies here commenting about this.

Once again sorry.

I was more specifically talking about the Dessert party at MK but I didn't know there were other places to see them. Did you get to see them on the balcony?

I feel like I'm always asking silly questions but can you book dessert party if you're only staying in a Disney hotel for your wedding night?

Thanks!

Yes, as long as you are staying at a Disney resort the night of the event, you can plan a private event through Disney Catered Events, including a Wishes dessert party at the Grand Floridian or the Contemporary, an IllumiNations dessert party in Epcot, or a Fantasmic! dessert party at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

I have information on planning a private catered event here: http://disneytravelbabble.com/how-to/private-party/ and photos of the venues here: http://disneytravelbabble.com/disney-weddings/wdw-venue-photos/

So once again, if not having a DFTW can lets say a dessert party at the GF.. Can i arrive with a wedding gown?

Have you considered the Swan and Dolphin for your wedding?
If value for money is what you are after, it may just fit the bill xxx

Yes I have considered for the ceremony and reception.. But for the fireworks it doesn't have a view :-/

You are right that the Swan/Dolphin has no view of 'Wishes''. It has a good view of 'Illuminations' from certain vantage points xx
