View from deck 2 Windows?

I'm thinking about an Alaskan cruise (first time cruise) and wondering how good the view is from a deck 2 ocean view window. Are you high up enough to see well or is it worth paying more for a higher deck? Do the windows stay clean enough to see scenery well? Can you see out the window when sitting in the couch? We REALLY want a veranda but need 2 connecting rooms so that really bumps the price. It looks to me that there is only 2 pairs of 7a connecting verandas on the Wonder so I don't know how likely it is to get that booking on opening day as first time cruisers.

We cruised to Alaska 2 years ago and had 2 OV rooms on the 2nd deck. We loved them. The views are great because you are so close to the ocean. However, we didn't spend a lot of time sitting in our rooms looking out the windows.

You get a nice close view of the ocean--good to see marine life. The windows stayed clean for us. You can't see that well while sitting on the couch, there is an ottoman type chair for the desk that you could move to sit in front of the window. We really weren't in the room that much, it was just nice to have a window to get light and look out of while getting ready in the morning, etc.

Ditto what others have said. We had room 2050 on the Wonder this past summer and if I had to go back and pay tons more for a verandah or stick with my deck 2 room, I wouldn't hesitate to take that deck 2 room again. We all loved it. My photos are pretty much identical to Geomom's (we were on the same sailing). I really loved being close to the water. It was super cool. I also liked being warm and dry!! Our sailing had some pretty chilly, rainy and foggy weather so I really doubt I would have used a verandah much at all. Any time I wanted to, I could run up to deck 4 and see from there. It was quite easy.

Our view of Vancouver is different, as we were on the other side of the ship. Here area few photos from our porthole.

Oh wow, those pics look great! I worry about the cold weather being on a veranda but the scenery is obviously the main purpose of the cruise so we want to take it in as much as possible. We will have 3 small children with us so I know with naps someone will be in the room part of the day and we want that part of the day to have a great view relaxing as well, not feeling trapped waiting for nap to be over.

we had deck 2 for Norway. Agree with others. View was good, but not at an agle to sit in the sofa and watch for any period of time. I had to stand on the other side of the TV, and sit on the desk area to get a decent view, which I did for 10 minutes here and there. I preferred to just hop up to the 4th floor.

When you dock, and the tide is low, you may be looking at a wall if you're on that side of the ship. Good news, tide comes in and the ship goes up!!

Really, that's the only "bad view" we had of our 2nd floor window. (And really, the view of the wall wasn't that much worse than the port where we were docked).

The weather isn't that bad. People think of Alaska they think it's cold. You are going to southern Alaska in the summertime. Or end of may to early September. I was on DCL first Alaska cruise may 3 2011. It was nice warmer than I thought.bring layers of clothing and enjoy.

we are deck 2 dwellers. Views are great. Fun to watch the larger waves / swells when traveling faster or through some rougher seas. In Alaska, that is not an issue since you will be sailing the inside passage (protected).
