Videographer or not?

as of right now we aren't doing a video. the main reason is the budget. Yes I think we will regret not having it, but for an extra $5000 it is just too much money. If you have the money, than do it. If not, look at it this way, would you rather have the extras for your guests, or cut all of them out so you can afford a video. that should make it easier to make the decision

It is so worth it to have the video. That is all you have except for the pictures after the wedding is over. It is nice to have and be able to watch that special day again and relive everything. As years go by and as many of your relatives and friends pass away, having that little bit of memory is worth all the money in the world and is something that can never be replaced. I say shop around for the best price and the best video people to go with but it is something you will not regret having.

We didn't spend anywhere near $5k and were very happy with our video.

As many of the ladies already mentioned, I loved having our video and it was so much fun having it to show at our at-home reception. Depending on your photographer, you can sometimes get a joint package. I know Randy Chapman and Stan from STVS are doing a joint one that is very reasonable. This wasn't availabe when my wedding was done, but even with all our add-ons (I work in TV and am pretty particular) plus getting our raw footage and having it in HD we only spent around $2,300, so I can't imagine spending nearly $5K and being disapointed, that really is too bad.

I suggest visting Stan's website for several sample Disney weddings and for the sneak peeks from many weddings too.

I watch our video periodically and love reliving the moment. I have tons of relatives and friends that have asked to watch it too. I have our raw footage out right now getting transferred to DVD and can't wait to see it.

I only have part of my video uploaded online, but here are the links. The first is the pre-wedding and the second is the actual ceremony. I haven't loaded the rest yet.

Here's our 5-minute montage: http://blip.tv/file/1667510/

And here's the whole enchilada, which clocks in at 61 minutes: http://blip.tv/file/1023592/

We used StarFruit Productions. At the time they were the only local(ish) vendor I could find who did a cinematic style of editing and offered multiple cameras for not a whole lot of money. (Their rates have since gone up.) I picked all the music, but it took a lot of back and forth to get our finished video the way we wanted it.This may be because, like FigmentFan, DH works in "the biz" and I'm just picky.

We didn't have one and don't regret it one bit. But, if you even think you will miss it you should probably get it. Our decision had nothing to do with the cost, we just didn't want a video. We knew we'd never watch it and honestly, the day was so perfect in my memory, I wouldn't want a video to ruin my memory of that perfection.

Tabetha-your video is GREAT! I love it all. You definitely made a good find!

Tabetha thanks so much for posting your video - it was great I really enjoyed it. I wish more people would post theirs.

Thanks, ladies!

The DVD that we received had that short 'sneak peek', a longer edited version, an unedited version of the ceremony and some 'bloopers' that played during the credits.

Very well done!

And we paid $1700 for the whole day - including a second shooter at the ceremony.

Has anyone used Disney videographers? I know they're costly, but I don't have a choice, with a ceremony in Epcot and a reception at Studios.

I also, hadn't considered having one, as I'd rather watch the raw footage then have someone edit it and only use bits and pieces.

I initially thought it would be an needless expense, and thought we could go the route of someone setting up a video camera. And all the wedding video samples I saw seemed too traditional at best, and super cheesy at the worst...

But then I thought about it some more, and realized that even though we could set up a camera and 'let it run', what we'd really want is an edited product (which is where a lot of your $$ goes in the process - editing is time consuming, and some people are pretty heavy handed at it).

I did some more research and came up with Cinema Chic in Titusville. Kat was amazing to work with, and the cost was reasonable.

We got our video, and we love it. She perfectly captured our personalities and the tone of our day. So much moreso than a static shot of our vows. You can see a snippet of it here

I don't regret doing it for a moment. There are some moments that brought tears, some moments that brought laughter... amazing moments that get lost in the day. We had a dessert party (well, wine and cheese, really) and for me the video is worth it for the fireworks alone...

My philosophy on video is, if you think you might want one... get one. I think it's better to have one and watch it seldom than to wish you'd done it.

Thank you so much for posting your video! It was beautiful! I still need to watch the rest of the videos posted on this thread. Looking forward to seeing them!

Heidi did! I don't think she has it back yet though....

Also, you might see if Disney would do a package with just the raw footage for you instead of editing it. If we'd been required to use Disney, that's what I would have done. Then you can always get someone else to edit it together to match your taste or, as you said, just watch the raw footage.

Sorry this is very off topic - but characterfan, just out of curiosity where are you doing your reception at the studios?

We're deciding between Hollywood Hideaway or Prop Shop. We're also thinking about Living Seas at Epcot. But Prop Shop is our first choice depending on how it looks at our site visit in September.

CharacterFan-like Lurkyloo said, I had Disney Videography. It was expensive, and I haven't seen the final result, but they were thorough. It's a contracted company (Bruno White?) and they were so professional the whole time. We met them the day before the wedding to do a "love story" interview, and then they shot a bunch of "B Roll" footage of us around the GF with two cameras (one on a funny glide-harness thing). Then, they came to our Welcome Dinner during Illuminations. The morning of the wedding, they were in our room super early and were there every step of the way.

I really liked all of them. I just hope the video looks as good as I'm expecting!! I'll definitely post it when I can.

I can't wait to see your video!!!

I saw the sample video on the DPS site but I really want to watch more. :happytv:

How very cool. we are looking at the LSS in 2 weeks. I never thought about the hideaway or the prop shop.

I'm not having a video, I can't afford it. I don't mind not having a video, there are a few people with their own video camera's going, and I really like watching our previous Disney video's. I would have a pro one if I'd got the money, but I should still have some nice footage.

I work in video production so I would never compromise video. I understand the costs - and unfortunately it's hard to find good videographers these days who really care. But, if you can afford it .. please do your research before you do hire someone! So many people think they can just point and shoot a camera and voila.

I was lucky and had my coworkers shoot my wedding for nothing :) I did have to buy them a nice dinner afterwards but they still had a great time at the wedding while shooting at the same time. :thumbsup2
