Video Now for 7yo dd?

Anyone have one of these. My 7 yo is asking for one and I just can't make up my mind if they're a good idea or not. Any thoughts, opinions, etc. would be appreciated. Thanks!

My brother had one and loved it for a few months. Now it never gets used.. I think a portable DVD player would be better. As you can play DVD's rather than catoons you have to purchase only for VN. So I would get a portable DVD player for her.

I got one for my 7yo DD because her brother seems to control the TV more. She likes shows like Lizzie Maguire, Raven, Full House, and he is into cartoons, ect. I figure, I can get her some of her shows, and she can watch what she wants, when she wants.

If she didn't have a brother who thinks he controls the Universe, then, I don't think it would get used very often, other than long car trips, but we have a DVD player in the van.

Tough call.

DH had an extra one at work so he brought it home for DS. He rarely uses it. For car trips etc a portable DVD player is more pratical so we just bring that rather than lugging around 2 players.

We have one of the old style color ones and the quality isn't all that great.

I also think the selection of PVDs for the Video Now is small but my DS is only 4 so there might be more selection for older girls.

I agree that a portable DVD player or even something like a gameboy or nintendo ds might be a better choice.

My dd got this for Christmas last year from her grandparents and has never used it. The selection of movies for it is horrible. I begged them not to waste their money but they couldn't think of anything else to get for her so they bought it.

Thanks everyone. My 10yo dd agrees. So it looks like I'll have to think of something else (b/c my spoiled kid already has a portable dvd player).
