I will be in WDW Sept 22-Oct 1 with my GF (28) and my parents will be there flying in from AZ for part of the week. What I am wondering about is if it is worth lugging my Mini DV Camera (Sony DCR-TRV11) that is a few years old around in the parks? It is not a big camera, but it cannot fit in my pocket either.

What I am wondering is if it is worth the trouble to carry it around and have to pay attention to the video camera recordings more than just enjoying the shows. I also have a new 5 MP pocket size Digital Camera that I will bring.

Any thoughts?

Hey I have the exact same camera. Love the compactness but wish the clarity was a little better. But as for lugging it around the parks. Well depends on what you want to save. I wont be taking it on any more of my trips, and thats because I already have recorded what I want. Thats the parade and the fireworks. Other than that, the family thing gets old quick. I much rather use the digital camera, quick take a pic and move on.

As the above poster said it's all in what you want to capture and remember. We always bring our camera and takeas much video as we can. Because we watch our home movies every Sunday. This is how we relive the magic. I'd say if you really aren't going to be watching the videos then don't bother taking it along just the DC would be fine.

I probably will take the camera and plenty of blank video tapes and while I am there if I find it getting in the way of enjoying the parks, I will just leave it at the hotel. The things I would like to capture on video are the shows and fireworks as well as some of the slower rides. I have found myself looking for videos online of shows, fireworks and rides online and while there are some out there online, I would rather my own. Plus the fact I can record in widescreen then burn to DVD, I might as well take advantage of the technology I have... Does it matter what kind of Mini DV tapes I buy? I have 3 batteries so I know I am ok there...

WE had both on our last trip and plan on taking them both for our honeymoon :goodvibes We got the shows, and a lot of the rides on video.

Here is a website on video taping hints @ WDW

It gives some great suggestions of things to tape and tips to get the best quality. Hope this helps

I have taken my camcorder to the parks the twice I have been, and plan on taking it for my 3rd trip in November.

When I watch the 2 trips previous it seems to be seperate experiences, and bring back memories.

example, my first trip I recorderd the extraterrorestrial ride (now stitch)

my 2nd trip I recorded tapestry of nations (which I beleive isnt there now)

Its good to just tape while you're going round the parks and soak up some of the experiance.

But that said you do have to get the balance right, as you dont want to see the parks through the lens all of the time.

Definitely! I brought my camcorder last week and it is really fun watching the video when we got back home. If you have children and are bringing a stroller - you can also put it in the basket until you are ready to use it. I think it is great since the kids will love watching their vacation over and over.
I highly recommend it.
We travelled with a digital camera, regular camera and a camcorder. It was worth it. You will regret not having the parades on video! I loved when Jafar came right up to me and looked into the camera!

we plan to take ours this time around, we didn't our last trip just our digital cam and it was great but this time around we will be taking both JVC hand heal (simaliar size to SONY i think) and our digital cam that takes good quality pics. both aren't pocket size at all but small enought to fit into the back back i use to carry on all rides. if it gets in the way the first few days we'll leave it at the resort room, in the safe...

I bring my camera every year I go. I have piles of tapes upon tapes of different years that I tend to edit together. It doesn't feel like a burden to me to have my camera with me all the time. It's like having a messenger bag. When you get home and watch everything all over again, you'll be happy you brought it. So many memories to relive.
