I had never heard of this custom but I am reading a book by Tess Gerritsen and in it she mentions a Victorian Acrostic Ring. I had no idea what it as but I looked it up on line. Apparently the first letter of each stone inthe ring could mean a name or a sentiment. For example Lapis Opal ? Emerald(I don't know a stone that begins with a v) but it would spell out the word love. I guess they were hidden messages. I think it is a neat idea. Might even be a good idea for a different kind of engagement ring. Has anyone else ever heard of this?
