Victoria Osteen asked to leave flight

Couple million in your back pocket will make you a diva, even if you are a preacher and a preacher's wife....opps, a play preacher, as he is not ordained, I understand.

Hmm, I guess he doesn't need to tend to his flock on Christmas, as he is taking that holy day off, flying first class to Vail, to ski.

I wonder how many preachers out there, and preachers' wifes get to take off Christmas, and fly first class.

What gets me is why the plane had to sit there for two hours :confused3
The Osteen's decided not to take that particular flight, so because they were no longer passengers on the plane their luggage had to be located and removed from the flight. Add some time to figure out what was going on, discuss the matter with the flight crew and the Osteen's, reach an agreement for them to go on another flight... 2 hours seems rather brief -- but then again I wasn't stuck sitting on the place. :earseek:

I don't quite understand why the Osteens are going on a skiing trip to Vail, Colorado during Christmas week in the first place?? This is what the article in AOL said, that they were flying to go skiing in Vail,Colo. for a family vacation.
Are the Osteens coming back later in the week to preach for their Christmas Eve and Day services?? Sounds kinda strange they would be taking off like that for a family vacation to a nice and expensive location, esp. during Christmas week? I could understand if Joel Osteen and family go after Christmas, but before Christmas? Is he depending on other pastors to preach for the Christmas services for him?
At my church, and I do go to a mega church in the Chicago area, our senior pastor (who is also the founding pastor of our church) doesn't go on vacation during Christmas week. For 30 yrs, our senior pastor has always preached at all of the Christmas services, unless he was very sick.

Not sure where the Osteen's priorities are at??

Perhaps, perhaps, someone was looking to be in a headline and Victoria is taking the high road by not coming out and claiming the other person is a liar. Maybe she's better than that. Just a though anyway, form a different perspective.

That's nonsense. The flight attendant and airline have made NO statement and are not seeking headlines. One other passenger made a mini-statement. I would assume that security was called, and the incident was made public at that point. And maybe, just maybe, this is the real Mrs. Pastor Osteen, and the one on stage is the persona presented to the public.

A radio personality used to say, "Don't pose for holy pictures unless you can live up to the image."

I'm sure she doesn't claim to be perfect and while every Christian should try to the fullest to bring glory to Christ, even in the hard times, we are human and sinners, thus the need for Christ in the first place.
Peace--

Well stated Mommyoeo.

Expectations of a preacher's wife (& kids) are unreachable, imo. As a preacher's wife I can tell you that even before the congregation got to know me they assumed I was perfect, never got angry, never made mistakes. They tell me this now, since they've found out that I'm no more "holier" than they are.

That being said, p.w. do need to set an example & remember that they represent their husbands & as all Christians do, represent Christ.

Sounds like she got more upset than she should have...she probably should have just cleaned it up herself if she had a problem.

On Christmas, I'll be with my husband..getting ready for services & making sure everything is set. I know I'm not perfect, but it does seem like their priorities are a little skewed. If we don't have church on Christmas, when should we have church? :confused3

My question exactly! Why would a preacher leave his church for Christmas? It looks like he's a televangelist - and they traditionally get bad press, so that shouldn't be a big surprise.

I've never charged the cockpit on an airplane or known anyone who has, so I expect there will be lots of folks casting stones. I also think that anyone with any class treats those in service positions, such as waiters, waitresses, and flight attendants with courtesy and respect.

Pilots have been authorized by law to be armed since 2002, after training and psychological evaluations. I don't know how many actually are armed. Maybe a tazer would have been more appropriate.
SOME (and it's actually VERY FEW) pilots are armed. And it's Taser. :)

To determine what her priorities are, I guess we will have to go to their multi-million dollar "fixer upper" house here in Houston and find out.

She is not just a preachers wife, she gets up on stage and preaches herself.

To those who don't know about them, they have a national church, which is based on a "feel good" theology. I don't know how to describe it, as I haven't watched that much of him, but, when you watch him you will know what I mean. Actually, I have heard that comment from many. But, he is smooth, very smooth.

I just looked at the link to Joel Osteen's church that someone posted and it lists that he won't be there on Christmas weekend, someone else will be presiding over the services...

There were several AP links to different newspapers and their accounts. The Colorado newspaper had a couple of people on the flight commenting and the Houston another etc.
Discussion from the radio sounds like your stereotypical high maintenance woman throwing a fit. There supposedly was some kind of liquid on her tray table when she got on the flight. There was a flight attendent walking by and she tried to get her to clean it up. When the FA said she had to get papers to the pilot but would be back to help her Victoria angrily followed her into the cockpit to demand better service. That is where the "mutually agreed" upon resolution was for the Osteens to leave the flight.
I also thought it was odd to be flying 1st class to a very expensive resort the week of Christmas.
Bet her DH had a few things to say to her about getting them all the good publicity. :rotfl:

Well of course it wouldn't. Would anyone care if Nick and Jessica were getting divorced if they both worked at your local Wal-Mart?

The fact that these folks are somewhat public figures (although admittedly I nhave never heard of them)makes this news.

Tom Cruise jumping on a couch would have been just one more nut if he wasn't Tom Cruise.

The drawback of "fame"....your good as well as bad behavior is out there for public view & commentary.

How long have you been watching for that one, Kristi? Perhaps if I were a PHD, I wouldn't make that mistake. Gold star for the day, girl.

My name isn't Kristi and I don't have a PhD. :confused3

Oh, sorry, I was thinking of 6timemomma, maybe, and I know you don't have a PHD. I can't think of anyone on the DIS with a PHD.

While I am no fan of televangelists or these wealthy prechers, you are not a "play preacher" if you are not ordained. My dad pastored for two years before he was ordained and I can assure you during that time, he took his job as seriously as he does now.

Not true.

There was a lot of misinformation earlier in the review process. There have been various accounts regarding events that occurred on one of our flights today. After further research, we can confirm that there are no remaining issues between CO and those passengers and therefore both parties feel no further comment is necessary.
