Victoria and Alberts - worth it now?

Hi all,

We are going on honeymoon to Disney in October and the highlight was to be a meal at Victoria and Alberts - we've been promising to go for a long time but never could justify the cost. But - its our honeymoon!

Anyway, we've just checked and the price has gone up, plus it looks like a very fixed 10 course menu - with the first thing caviar (which we both cant stand!). Is it really worth the price tag if we are likely not not enjoy some of the menu?

What would you guys recommend as an alternative? Preferably on property, but we can Uber if it's worth it!

The V&A menu changes constantly and they will contact you before hand about foods you will or wont eat so I wouldn't really worry about that aspect of it.

Ah that's good - we land in the US the day before the meal - how do they usually get in touch?

I wouldn’t worry too much about menu items that you don’t like- they will always make accommodations- always.

My wife and I ate there on our honeymoon 12 years ago and it was very memorable. I would definitely do it if I were you!!

We are also going for our honeymoon in November. I'm not too happy about the change, this restaurant was my favorite for a while now, but I like having the choices of the 7 course. They will usually call a week prior to your reservation, my last time there they didn't call and I had to call them. They will go over what you are celebrating, any allergies and you can mention food you definitely will not eat, like the cavier. I've also had pretty good experience with changing a menu item while in the restaurant. If I don't like something and mention it the chef has created something completely unique for me on the spot. I've done that twice and both times those items ended up being beyond delicious

It’s so very subjective. A lot comes down to your disposable income. If eating here would put you at eating as cheaply as possible the rest of the week, then no, I don’t think it’s worth it. If you can eat here and easily afford the bill, then absolutely.

If it doesn’t fit in the budget it doesn’t fit. There are many other places that will fit where you will have excellent meals.

We've squeezed it into the budget It was this or upgrading the flight on the way home - but I'll just hopefully have a snooze on the way back! Thank you - I'm so, so excited!!

I'm allergic to seafood so I get a modified menu. They still try to keep the progression of lighter to heavier proteins intact but without using seafood. Sometimes it's as simple as just removing a caviar garnish, modifying a seafood course to be vegetarian (had the most amazing ratatouille stuffed cannelloni once as a substitute), or completely substituting a course for something else. They will also try to accommodate changes while at the restaurant if they can. Last time one of my courses was vegetarian and before it was served, I was told that the chef would like to add some bison and would I be OK with that (it was delicious). They are very accommodating. Also, if it's just something you don't like, maybe give it a try. The courses are small so that you can eat all 10 so if you don't actually like it, then it's not like you're stuck with a big dish that you're wasting. I hate mushrooms but have had an amazing mushroom pasta at V&A. I have now come to the conclusion that I will eat pretty much anything the chef(s) at V&A care to make as long as it doesn't contain any of my allergens. I still won't eat mushrooms anywhere else, but V&A gets a pass.

No worries at all - I must sound a bit of a cheapskate, so I understand!! We would definately pair the wines, too - did they have a range from around the world (I've noticed in previous trips to signature restaurants at Disney that it can be a bit US or nothing!! )?

They buy wines from all around the world. Because they are small and have a very small number of guests every day, they often buy in very small batches (sometimes as little as just one case of a wine). This gives them the ability to buy from smaller wineries which don't produce a lot. This is one of the reasons why wines at V&A might be more expensive. We've had a lot of really interesting and different wines from all over the world at V&A including a Chilean sparkling wine which was very nice.
