My boyfriend and I want to have a special 4th anniversary meal here at V&A's in January, but now that I've showed him the menu, he's starting to chicken out.

Pardon my inexperience, but is there only a Prix Fixe menu? His concern is that since it changes regularly, he may get stuck eating something he doesn't really like (primarily seafood).

We wanted to know:
1.) Can you go "a la carte" or just order an entree?
2.) If one of us orders the Prix Fixe (likely me) and he just orders a filet and salad and dessert, are there any limitations on me giving him a taste of what I've got?
3.) If one person orders the Prix Fixe, is everyone at the table required to do so?

It's entirely prix fixe, but you can mix and match from the categories (he could replace the fish course with something else from the menu that he likes).

He could, if he wished, eat only a couple of courses, but he'd pay for all of them.

If you are in the main dining room you do have the option to choose between several dishes for each course.

Although the menu does change daily, you'll find that the chef offers a similar range of menu items. So, you won't go there only to find that its just seafood on the menu that night.

Dont worry, I dont eat fish either and the chef was very accommodating, I called up 48hrs before to confirm our reservation and I went through a list of likes/dislikes, so when we had the meal I had a menu specially devised for me with vegetarian choices instead of fish choices, but I am also fussy about my vegetables and dont like Mushrooms or eggplant, no worries, I told the Maitre D that anything sweetcorn/butternut squash/pumpkin/bell peppers or greens would be fine. I was delighted with my menu when I saw that chef had made me sweetcorn soup and sweetcorn risotto instead of the fish course :cloud9:
It is a wonderful meal and I couldnt imagine a more romantic, perfect place to celebrate your Anniversary, I have already booked again for our trip in April :goodvibes

Here is a recent menu from V&A. You get to choose one from each course.

And there is nothing to preclude eating from each other's plate.

They also have a vegetarian menu that they present at every table and you can always swap out courses. I took a friend last time that is a strictly meat and potatos type of guy. He still raves that this was the best meal he has EVER had. GO, you'll love it and so will your guy!!
