Victim Impact Statement WWYD? UPDATE - 7/29/10

I had a friend in college who wrote and recorded an impact statement. Her cousin was shot and killed at a party the shooter was aiming for someone else and he shot her instead. My friend at the time of the sentencing was pregnant with her first child and had health problems related to stress so she recorded the statement on a cassette and a victim's advocate played the cassette at the hearing.

Finally in jail, but gets out in March. At least my child will be safe the next 7 months.

Did you call the police and report this? This would usually have a huge impact on EVERYTHING!!! I'm so sorry this is happening to your DD and your family.

A restraining order has been in place since last fall. We had a private investigator follow the defendant after each hearing. The investigator called us when it showed up at our house and the police were called before there was contact with my child. I feel that the weapon was intended for me, although the defendant has stated that the weapon was for suicide. After jail, probation states no contact for 5 years.

I completely agree. Sorry to hear you are going through this and have had to resort to such drastic measures to keep your child safe from a psycho. I hope prison won't be easy on him.
