Via Napoli - worth it if you are used to GREAT pizza?

Phfft. I think we should compare resumes... how many years did you live in each area? I suspect I lived longer in the NY/NJ area than you've lived in the MA area. :)

Still, that disappointment factor won't be assuaged by the fact that something perceived as mediocre is "the best" available where you are at the time. The same situation has led me to eschew return trips to Marrakesh and Nine Dragons, among others.

Sure, we can compare resumes anytime. :)

By the way, you don't have to live in a town/city to know about the cuisine and how it compares. I have traveled enough places to know where to get the best pizza, steak, ribs, etc..

We have no interest in Via Napoli which I'm sure is your best choice pizza wise at any Disney park. Since Pepe's is only 15 mins away never feel the pizza urge at the World (born and raised in NYC - Pepe's is king!!!)

This is true, though only to some extent. I used to travel 200 days a year - often a different city every day of the week - and got a high-level view of the quality of cuisine at all levels, all over the country. However, one thing I noted is that, as a casual visitor (even though I returned to many cities over and over again over the years) you don't really gain a clear appreciation, as you would as a resident, because your dining choices are often colored by the nature of your visits, and because your sampling is much smaller in each place. Over five years I spent 20 days in Aguadilla, PR, for example, but there is still a chance that I happened to hit the restaurants I ate at there on "good days" (or on days that I was personally more positively inclined, which always colors people's reviews despite their efforts to the contrary), rather than the food just "being good" at those restaurants, all the time, as my experience would seem to indicate.

We thought the pizza was good, best ever on property. We have a couple good pizza places where we live and felt Via Napoli ranked top of list. We went with a fellow DISer who relocated to FL from Boston area and she has been back a few times for the pizza, plus she has lots of Italian blood flowing through her veins. So its all in the individual tastes. Go and try I say and give it your own opinion.

Totally, totally agree about Pepe's. But my biggest complaint with Via Napoli was that the pizza was undercooked, IMO. That said, I'm heading back because I just love Italian (its our family's favorite, by a mile) and its a little more casual and relaxed for my four year old son than Tutto. That said, I'm planning on doing pasta this time and saving the pizza for the next time I hit up Pepe's! :rotfl:

When we went in February, it was the last meal of our trip and I think we were suffering some serious restaurant fatigue at that point, so who knows what we'll think this time? I really want to love this restaurant, as I think the concept is excellent, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we have a great meal there this time. :thumbsup2

So I am from the North End of Boston, home of to die for pizza, and we love Via Napoli pizza but if you dont want to get that go for the pasta dishes...excellent!

So my DH and I go into the North End alot, but always head right to Pizzeria Regina in there (or have dinner at one of the restaurants). Can you tell me exactly where to get the BEST pizza there? Nothing can compare to the "original" Pizz. Regina, omg, it is SO good. Then top it off with a cannoli at Mike's:thumbsup2 of course.

I agree, they have much more than pizza and I'm sure you will find something you like. Our pizza there was very good.

I am from Atlanta (grew up there and live there now), but I lived for several years in NYC and Boston. Atlanta currently has some very good pizza places that serve neopolitan pizza (what people might call "Italian" style) of the type that Via Napoli does. Part of what makes this pizza great is the use of 00 flour in the dough. The crust is thin and the sauce is light. This style of pizza is VERY different from NYC style and that found in Boston. So if you have never tried this style, I say go. You will likely enjoy. But to try to compare it to NYC style (or Boston or NJ) is comparing apples to oranges. Its just a different style.

PS: If you are ever in ATL, try pizza antico. Great Neopolitan pizza! And the setting is cool - you eat at communal tables in the kitchen, and bring your own wine (or whatever). :thumbsup2 And you will no longer say there are no good pizza places outside the northeast.
