Via Napoli disappointment

so we went to VN last nite for pizza and we're not impressed. It was soggy and we like a crisp crust. Is this their norm or did we just get a bad nite? And that place is way too loud. They need to work on the acoustics. A hearing impaired person would have extreme difficulty in there. I was so disappointed about the pizza. I had really been looking forward to that. The zeppole were awesome, I could have drank that chocolate sauce.

. . . staff attentiveness: C
. . . character interaction: n/a

NOTE1: Primarily a pizza location, with "authentic" recipes. Most enjoy the pizza and
it makes a good break in the day, although the pizza is on the expensive side. It must
be noted that if on DDP, there is no sharing of some pizzas. Every one eating must use
their DDP credit.

NOTE2: Of course, the "restorante" portion has Italian non-pizza food. The Eggplant
Parmigiana was pretty decent. The Spaghetti and the chicken parm was only medicore.
The veal parm was above average. The salad entrees did not appeal to us. We think they
want the reputation to rest with the pizza, and have the other menu items to round out
the eatery. So, go for the pizza and/or the very good appys, or pass it up. Finally, the
place, like many WDW eateries is VERY, VERY noisy. I would say it is bad for most folks,
but with the din, I couldn't think straight.

NOTE3: Many folks have asked for inbgredient substitutions or side dish substitutions on
pizzas and/or other entrees. The eatery does not do this very often or very well. Thus, be
forewarned.

If you dont mind me asking, what size did you get? i've noticed that with anything larger than a personal size pizza, it tends to be soggy. The most complaints come from larger sizes of pizza. I usually get the personal size and its always been delicious. Although the past few trips i've stuck to my fave dish, candele pasta. Its to die for! :cloud9: ....I agree with you about zeppolle, its so good with that chocolate sauce.

I think you might have had an off night. We tried VN in 2015 and were not impressed. DD got a kid's personal pizza and it was raw in spots…yuck! But we just tried it again this past April and it was MUCH better. We all liked it and would go back again, but we are definitely "pizza people," as in, even bad pizza is still pretty good (unless it's raw! hahahaha!). Was VN the BEST pizza EVER?? Nope, but I live a stone's throw from New Haven, CT and we have pretty awesome pizza around here so my bar is set kind of high!

I hope you spoke to someone about the sogginess of your pizza, and didn't actually pay for it. Their crust is typically quite crisp.

DH and I went to VN on our adults only trip a few years ago and we were not impressed at all. It gets a lot of love on here but we have no plans of going back.

We got a large pizza. It was done, just soft. It was disappointing. Maybe it was an off nite for them

WE had lunch there 2 weeks ago--didn't seem overly noisy to us and the service was excellent.

The pizza however just wasn't our "style"--a C- at best. Place was packed so I guess they have a good following.

Same.

Our server didn't care even a little bit that we barely touched the pizza. Didn't even ask if we wanted anything else. I even told her that it wasn't good.

No need for us to try again.

DH had just been in Italy eating real Italian pizza etc and he said VN was bad in comparison. DS likes anything even pizza-shaped and he was hungry but had just one piece. I just thought it was gross.

Via Napoli has to be the overrated and overpriced restaurant at Disney, loud like a cafeteria, subpar service, and food is really nothing special

I agree with this, in particular. We had them make a 1/2 and 1/2 mezzo metro pizza and the really messed it up. And it is quite loud.

btw I like your restaurant reviews, they are very thorough and have good added comments.

I've let them know I like a crisp crust and that seemed to have helped me the last time. I agree with it being loud in there - my husband didn't like it because of that.

Even at home, I usually put takeout pizza in the oven for a little while to get that crisp crust. LOL

We've been many times and never had a bad pizza there -- I wouldn't say especially crispy (don't believe it's supposed to be), but no soggy crusts. It is loud, but that doesn't bother us.

It appears to be backlash time for Via Napoli on DIS (perhaps bashing Le Cellier is getting boring ;)), but we continue to love it!

Is there a restaurant on WDW property that you give mostly A's to?

True Neapolitan style pizza can be partly defined as having a bottom crust that "can be folded without cracking."

Sounds like Neapolitan pizza is not for you. They made it correctly.

I was there last week and shared a large pizza. We loved it and ate every bite. I actually thought the crust was more substantial than it has been in the past and it wasn't soggy.

This may be the issue. I guess my expectations were off. I wasn't trying to diss the place - I thought they were having an off nite.

The reason we noticed the noise is that we are audiologists- we work with people who could not hear in places like that.

I think it was totally clear that you weren't dissing it -- just wondering if your experience was typical. :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

We ate there last year and thought it was really good, my 12 year old insist we go again this year.
