VHS-what to do with them?

Last year someone gave us a ton of VHS movies. She thought I could put them on my garage sale which I did and sold about 100 of them! It was great! I donated about 50 to the local library and our church. The rest we donated to Goodwill. Just last week I bout 2 new Disney Christmas sing-along VHS movies from Goodwill for the kids. They were fun and for 50 cents a piece!

If you buy a DVD/VHS combo thing, make sure you get the one that has the DVD recorder, not just a player. If the DVD doesn't record, you can't do anything but watch!

Last year we donated a bunch to our yearly church yard sale. This year they refused them as "no one buys them anymore".

We have not owned a VHS player for over 5 years now. We gave some of them to the only person we knew that still had a VHS player and ended up throwing the others that she didn't want away. I called 2 places about donating them, but they were not accepting VHS donations, only DVD.

Three years ago I gave another friend about 50 DVD kids movies that my sons were too old for and my daughter didn't want, like The Land Before Time and Batman. I am going to clear some more out before Christmas to give them to my sister in law for my nephew-he'll be 2 in May. I'm just going to give them all to her, if she doesn't want them, she can figure out what to do with them!

a hospital in your area may take then. my husband spent a week in one not long ago and they have vcr's in the patient rooms. let me tell you, the selection of movies was not that great. I know if we come across any here where they are being donated.

thanks..does anyone know how legal it is to convert them? i know you can't copy them so i wonder if this is along those same lines..

As far as I know the law was you were allowed to make a copy for your own use in the event the original became damaged so I would not worry about copying any you have that you want to transfer to dvd from vhs.
Now I am not sure if VHS might be copyright protected to prevent copying like dvds although I doubt any older ones would be.

I have personal vhs tapes of my now grown DS which is the main reason I want the machine so I can put those on dvd, but I will be copying others too;)

Do we have any technical people here that can tell us how to play a vhs tape on the player and hook it up to the dvd recorder of a pc to copy it?
