VGT cabins 5E

So we are thinking about a cruise for March of 19, and I happened to mention to DH that there is a 3 night Fantasy over my birthday this summer and he said go for it (this would give us the grand slam--wonder in 03, magic in 04, dream in 16). ! But there is a choice of a VGT cabin with a 5E designation. We have always picked our cabin. Does this mean we can't get any category lower than a 5E? Is there a risk of a terrible room if the worst is 5E? For a couple hundred more we could still pick a room, but I know sometimes I read about people getting lucky.

What you're looking at is a GTY, not a VGT. With a VGT reservation, Disney can give you any room that has a verandah. The cruise that you're looking at with the GTY guarantees that you will get a 5E or better. And upgrade is possible, but you're likely to get exactly what you booked. You can look at the stateroom reports here on the Dis and check the reviews for 5E rooms. If you would be unhappy in any of the ones that you read about, then Choose a reservation that allows you to choose your stateroom.

I actually like the thought of the 5E rooms and was thinking about booking one on a March 2019 cruise, so not a problem.
