I think the backlog of new purchases by existing members has cleared up. I finished talking with my guide around 4:30pm yesterday and received my documents to sign around 6:00pm. Later last night my new contract was visible and my points were loaded. This was definitely quicker and less stressful than resale. I would have rather purchased a resale contract and saved some money but there were not a lot of contracts available for what we were looking for and we did not want to miss out on the current incentives and pay more.

I wanted to purchase in 1999 but we had to wait. We bought BCV resale in 2018 and now VGF in 2022. Now I own at two of my favorite resorts and I can start planning on how I will use my new points.

Congrats, and re-Welcome Home. :)

Yeah, we bought in direct at VGF five years ago. Sooooo much simpler than resale the way Disney goes snickety-snick and with a whoosh, there are your points.

I am not a current member of DVC but would like to be. Does anyone know if I could buy 25-50 points at an old resort to become of direct member with no benefits?
I have read within 24-48 hours I would have my membership number. After I have the membership number would I then qualify for the current member pricing at VGF?
Also if I could I buy the small contract this week and could I quickly buy the VGF points on the March 28th or 29th and be in time for the current member promotion?

I don’t think non-members can buy in at 25 points. Im sure someone here will chime in with the lowest possible purchase.

Unfortunately, no. To buy in direct as a new member you will need to buy 150 points.

You could find a resale contract for a small number of points, but it would never close in time for what you are talking about.

Thanks for your help. Right after I posted this a DVC guide was making a follow up call to me. I asked them about buying a smaller contract from an older resort and they all told me that I would need to purchase 150 points first then buy small. However this is news to me, because when I was talking with a guide in 2019, he was willing to let me buy 25 points at an old resort. I just didn't because I still wasn't sure if I wanted to own DVC without first trying it out. So, sometime between then and now things changed.

That is correct. Over the last few years, DVC has raised the minimum points required for new members several times - - it used to be 25 and today it is 150 points. It is possible that this minimum requirement will be raised again sometime in the future.

It’s possible, but I kind of doubt it.

If anything I think it’s more likely to be lowered in the future.

150 points at direct prices is a lot of cash. If they keep expanding DVC they may need smaller buyers in order to sell out these resorts.
