VGF rooms are seeming dated--Unpopular Opinion?

Hi! Like many on this site, I love love Grand Floridan as a resort, it's so nice and fancy. BUT I feel like the rooms seem dated. Nice... but kind of old-feeling. I do like how spacious the rooms are, but I feel like the decor and furnishing look dated (though the bathrooms are good and have nice fixtures)

Maybe it's just me, maybe it's because the 1 and 2 bedroom villas look like my grandmother's house. Maybe I just have a fancy grandmother...

VGF is slated for a soft goods refurb in 2021. Personally, I liked the themed decor of the resorts and don’t care for the trend toward generic furnishings that don’t distinguish one resort from another. I want VGF to retain some of its Victorian flare.

Oh yeah, definitely keep the Victorian flair! The theme is the most important aspect in Disney resorts imo. I'm glad to hear it will get a soft refurb. I was thinking the fabrics look dull and tired, for instance

Completely agree. It seems like all the refurbs are stale. I think SSR retained some of their flavor, but BCV looks like the Marriott - it is awful!

I find GF in general is too grandma style themed. (And I am 62 but not a grandma yet).

But thankfully there are DVC resorts for every taste.

So when you said that it looked like your fancy grandmother’s house, you weren’t commenting on the esthetic? You were comparing it to the lack of upkeep? I totally misread your post. My grandmother had doilies and older furnishings but everything was immaculately clean and well kept.

My grandma cleans as well as she can but it doesn't prevent her stuff from being old because she's had it for 50+ years!
VGF can look Victorian without looking old.
Some if the room elements don't even look Victorian. That beige couch for instance is sad looking, not to mention it lacks the extravagant ornamentation of the Victorian period.

I agree with your take on the refurbs at those resorts, but they don't have to do that at VGF. One can hope?

Worn I'll disagree with. Probably tired too. Are you going off of pictures or have you stayed there?

I'd guess you do not care for Riviera much either?

I worked for the Orlando Preservation board for a while about 6-7 years ago and I loved seeing what many of the owners of Queen Anne and Folk Victorian homes did in the various historic districts in the area, balancing the homes' interior Victorian style while still keeping things looking fresh. The Grand Floridian is supposed to represent those same styles, "Palm Beach’s golden era" as Disney says on their website, which was around the same time as the Queen Anne and Folk Victorian iterations were prevalent. In my opinion, the exterior, lobbies, and hallways achieve the above; but the room interiors are more a blend of Victorian aspirations and 1980s aesthetics.

I hope the soft refresh mentioned is a nice improvement (glad to hear about this). I love staying there, have been doing so since I was young as my parents would take us there for Xmas. But I think the rooms can use a little more love and the fabrics, at least, a little more themeing. Certainly didn't mean to push anyone's buttons! If I didn't love staying there I wouldn't care!

Do you get a similar feel with Riviera? The studio in particular really felt like VGF to me - but with an 80's vibe. So I get the vibe you're talking about just not at VGF.
