VGF 2 points usage question

Oh, I wouldn't give up on the argument that quickly!

With a shiny new building into the mix that nearly every DVC owner has the ability to try to book at 7 months if they want to, we may not really know how it will affect availability for a few years.

Just remember this phrase everyone if your predictions start looking wrong right out of the gate. "I wasn't wrong, I was just early!"

LoL. And my thoughts have always been this will impact things. As you say, we won’t know the true impact until things start.

I also think that impact booking doesn’t have to mean doom and gloom. It could be that those owners booking 8 or 9 months now having no issues will find that they need to book closer to 11 months.

I know, and have said, I am not buying for the resort studios and will only book those when I can’t get a 2 bedroom. Other than that 1 bedrooms as I like to stay one or two nights there as part of my split stays with RIV.

But, to be fair, I have 1 bedrooms with my SSR points so in that sense, I was a guest.

At least next week, we will have the price and real numbers of who is buying from the boards…and then we can spend time monitoring how things are going for booking! Lol

Would they even be allowed to do that? I'm thinking they'd run into some serious issues with that. I'm not one of the most knowledgeable people about DVC contracts and the like, but I believe they aren't able to raise the overall points that it would take to book out a unit. And with the clear distinction between the old building and the new building, they wouldn't be slipping this past anyone.

That’s why I said there are two schools of thoughts on this as it has been done, and without a challenge, no one knows for sure.

But, I agree that people are much more in tune to what DVC does now and DVC knows that.

Any attempt would be years down the road but because VgF1 has units comprised of different room sizes, I think they can find a way to adjust rooms at that building while leaving the points at BPK alone.

Congress Park is distinct from The Paddock at Saratoga Springs, and they did it there.

And if they CAN do this, it harkens back to my earlier point...

For example: What's to stop them from tearing down Aruba, building point extensive "Mediterranean Villas" as an "upgrade" to RIV, then a few years later, reallocating all the points... It's a slippery slope.

I don’t know the answer but is each area of SSR made up of the exact same room make up and unit sizes? Are we sure that when SSR was declared that units didn’t encompass buildings from different areas?

That is what you have to know first. With VGF, we know BPK is a new set of units because they are being added now. We also know the treehouses were their own units when added.

Its why I said it’s complicated.

Of course. I'm not trying to say that it's so obviously an upgrade in every way that everyone should prefer it. And if they were converting existing DS to RS I could understand existing owners being upset. I'm just saying that the people framing it as a clear and universal downgrade that will distort the balance of the points chart are making a huge jump to conclusions.
I'll

The number of points in the entire building cannot change. But they can redistribute them based on demand by season and type. 2 million points cannot go higher or lower but how those are assigned to any given room or villa can change.

So basically they could make the studios more costly in VGF1, but they’d have to reduce the cost of the 1 bedrooms to do it?

That would be interesting.

If you subscribe to the theory that all Points have to stay point neutral foe each individual unit, then yes, it’s possible if a unit has 2 bedroom lock offs in it.

Wow, I think I've learned 2x as much through this thread than I ever *thought* I needed to learn.

Then again, as the new guy, I think one of the most important was some of the personalities around here... :D

We're ready for our next resort day of lolling about, interrupted only by afternoon tea and cucumber sandwiches!

Hilarious!! I really don't think VGF is snooty at all. Its just got a fun Victorian theme, that reminds me of the Hotel Del Coronado (one of its architectural inspirations), where my family would often vacation from LA when I was a kid. And, for what its worth, I don't think the sky is falling for DVC members who want to book accommodations other than studios. Studios are more in demand, which makes total sense considering the sky high point charts for one and two bedrooms.

No and I don’t find any hotel in Orlando fits the snooty label. Hotels in Orlando don’t compare to the hotel de Paris Monte Carlo or raffles

disney hotels are in a class of their own as they have something no other hotel in the world has. The wdw bubble. Because of the bubble they get to operate in a totally unique manner.

DVC owners have to watch them like a hawk now.

Yeah I get that and I 100% agree it’s for everyone. But at the same time let’s be honest it’s an intimidating resort. Walking into that lobby if someone isn’t used to that kind of hotel will feel pretty out of place.

the people who stay at gfv paying cash have money is the very real perception.

wish this wasn’t the case, wish the world was less about money and perception but well, you know

Frankly, with the cost of all Disney resorts every single resort should make every guest feel in awe.

I'm sure everyone had a similar experience, I took the DVC tour and sat thru the presentation and desperately wanted the VGF GV. When they explained the points that were required, I humbly looked down at my plate and settled for the studios..... It took me a few years to add on enough to be able to book the GV's. Its like a marathon, you dont just go run one, you gotta work up to it.

This is definitely us too! My wife asked "What are we going to do when the kids are all grown and don't want to go with us anymore?" My reply was "Need more points for enough rooms for the Grandkids". Maybe my outlook is too rosy, but I'll admit it gets dusty in the room when I see those videos. That's our primary goal when we addon.

I am *so* their target audience... :D
