VGC Direct?

Has anyone here been able to buy direct points recently at VGC? I've been told many times there are no points available, no waitlist, etc, but I noticed on last month's direct report that there were 4 contract sales. And while they aren't buying back at VGC, one would think there has to be an occasional foreclosure. Anyone know what this is about and if there is something special to say to my guide to make it happen?

I'm not sure, but I thought there was an existing wait list and they just weren't expanding it. I might be wrong though.

I’ve asked my guide off and on over the last 6 to 8 months if I can get on the list for VGC direct and the answer is always a polite no. This is after buying a not trivial number of direct points at other resorts so it’s not for lack of motivation.

I’d recommend going resale for VGC for a few reasons. So far the ROFR monster seems to be reluctant to buy VGC points. As VGC points are so crazy expensive when compared to all other DVC resorts that it doesn’t really make sense to use them at the 7 month mark for others if you can avoid it.

If you really want direct and Disneyland Resort, VDH would be a better bet. Yes VGC is awesome and I’m glad I own there, but VDH should be nice and likely a good buy if incentives are as decent as I expect them to be.

What everyone else said. I bought VCG direct a couple of years ago after being on the waitlist for a very long time. My guide told me the waitlist was so long, they weren’t adding any more names to the list. So that is what you might be seeing.

I love VGC and brought there, but I am looking forward to the VDH option and will probably get points there to use for "last minute" getaways.

We live in NorCal and with VGC, we always have our planned Birthdays/Halloween Season/Christmas Season trips booked at the 11 month mark, but if friends or family want to go visit at say 2-4 months out, there is obviously no availability.

So I'm hoping for a few years at least, the VDH would be our option to stay for "last minute" stays.

I read somewhere (here or Facebook?) in the last week or 2 that someone added on direct for VGC. I was pretty shocked when I saw that too. I guess that person must have made it to the top of the waitlist. I own VGC and am strongly considering adding at VDH too.

Just an update on mine after passing ROFR on the 15th but not receiving the docs.

I inquired this morning and was told they were sent via Docusign on the 16th, but I never received notification in my email (including spam). Got them re-sent and I've signed. Waiting on Sellers to sign now.

If anyone is waiting from last week, maybe inquire in case yours got caught in a Docusign glitch too.

Yeah, kind of insulting you can get resale aulani points at 1/3 the cost for a superior resort... But, location, location, location right?
Oh.... I hope that isn't true or I'm really silly for buying a lot of VGC points :)

Really it comes down to that remodel in 2024. I'm hopeful that DVC will do us right and give us a high quality refresh and VGC will keep it's spot as a top tier flagship on the West Coast. To me, trying to compare Aulani vs VGC is just to hard. I'd rather own VGC because I want to be able to stay there for 8 to 10 nights a year (or more) and trying to get into VGC at 7 months is not easy. Aulani on the other hand seems to be somewhat easy to get into most seasons as long as you are willing to pay the point premium for ocean view.

Aulani is a awesome place, and I cant wait to visit soon. I also love a lot of the resorts at WDW and would gladly own even more that we do now. But for even the WDW die hard fans, most will agree that VGC is special.......

Thematically Grand Californian is en pointe. I don't know if I would subjectively call Aulani a superior resort. Maybe the landscaping pushes it over the line. I can see how others may take a different view. The distinct difference is that you cannot separate Grand Californian from Disneyland. I adore Aulani but I don't think it's particularly 'magical' or unique in the same way Disneyland/Grand Cal scratches that itch. It isn't meant to. Aulani is a Hawaiian hotel built by Disney. Grand Californian is more than that: it's nestled in Disneyland offering access to something that is joyful, intergenerational, and a monument to creativity. Location? Sure. There's a lot of meaning to this location. Price reflects the sentiment.
