I know it's tomorrow but let me just stop and take a moment to thank those for have served in the Armed Forces and say that your service and self-sacrifice does not go unnoticed.

To those who have loved one's in the military or know someone in the military. It is the support of our families, friends and complete strangers that help get us through the tough times and so if you know someone that has served.. stop and say thanks.

Ok folks,

Lets see those patriotic pictures!

Thank you!! My husband was a submariner in the US Navy stationed in Groton, CT (now in the reserves) and I don't think people realize how much those that are/were in the military appreciate even the smallest acknowledgement of how brave they are and what they provide for our country.

I will pass along the message to him and I'm sure he will tell you all thank you and that he was proud to serve this country (in fact, I think he misses it juuuuuuust a little bit). :goodvibes

Unfortunately, I am at work with no patriotic pictures, but I'm sure I must have some of the subs or him in his uniform at home.

Anne - give your husband a huge THANK YOU! for me. I was at the sub museum in Groton last summer and was in awe of what those guys do for our country. We were able to watch a sub come in from the viewing area by the USS Nautilus. I was very impacted by that experience!

Thanks OrchJoe. And a thanks for serving to you also. I did 10 years in the Submarine force as a sonar tech, and believe me, I understand all to much the time away from the family. My brother, crazydadguy, is a veteran as well, who served 6 years as a tin can FireControl guy.

Hey - how long ago did you serve? What boat were you on?? DH was on the USS Alexandria.

Here's a picture of my godfather serving in the Pacific during WWII. It's not a great picture, but it reflects the patriotism of The Greatest Generation.

And here's a picture of me 25 years ago when I was a young wet-behind-the-ears barely out of training Captain. (Wish I still looked like that!--That hat has been discontinued for at least 15 years, I think. LOL) I was commissioned in 1980; I retired in 2004. I requested that Golden Dream (from the American Pavilion) be played at the beginning of my ceremony and I'll tell you, there wasn't a dry eye in the house as that song played and we heard the clear and strong voices of JFK, MLK and Neil Armstrong. Of course, now everytime I hear it at Disney, I cry like a baby. I felt so proud of our country as I watched the beginnings of a peaceful transition of power from President Bush to President-elect Obama on the news tonight. What a great country this is! I always say, it takes a few million people in uniform to raise our flag every day. Just as our brothers in sisters in arms have done in generations past, the young people serving today are making such sacrifices for us all to ensure that these peaceful transitions go on for generations to come. What an honor it is to have the opportunity to continue to work with them and their families every day. Please keep them all in your thoughts and prayers.

As a Vietnam era veteran I would like to salute ALL those who gave of their time and especially their lives for the service to the great United States of America.

I have chosen not to post pictures of US soldiers, though I have many, but to post several photos that hold certain inspirational feelings for me during my time in country during the year of 1969. To me these show that feelings for the fallen during the horrors of war transcend all nationalities and locales.

Those below were taken with an Olympus PenEE 1/2 frame 35mm camera, on the fly, during the Tet Offensive of 1969 in Bien Hoa city. As a small pocket type camera, it went with me on every field operation with Co. D, Ranger, 151st Infantry.

Please, a special prayer for all of our service men and women.

To all of my veteran brothers and sisters, it was an honor to serve with all of you, and an honor to serve this great country.

I served from July 1973 to April 1998. USAF. Retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant (E-8).

Here are a few pictures from a low level training mission in the French Pyrenees mountains sometime in 1988, using a Canon AE-1.

The beast. MC-130E Combat Talon

We installed a bubble in the forward overhead escape hatch. Used to spot incoming aircraft.

I was on the USS Narwhal from 93-97 and the USS Scranton from 2000-2002. I work as a gov contractor now, and worked on the Alerx around 05? sometime. Not sure of the exact dates. I was working on a software install for sonar at the time.

Thank you for the pictures - we would not have our freedom today without our soldiers and their families.
