How will the crowds be over Veterans Day weekend Nov 9th-12th? We are planning to visit Universal and DL...will either be equally busy?

It is a very busy weekend. I have sworn off ever going again on that weekend. Last time we went they stopped letting people in as it was at capacity, even AP users had to get a hand stamp.

We must have been there with ya Grammy!! During the week was ok but on the Veterans day it was INSANE!! They did close the gates because of capacity and ride waits were on average - 75mins. I would never go back again on that day. Although, I think Disney may have changed a thing or two since then - 2years ago. On the day we were there, it was a Friday AND the first day of Christmas for the parks. Last year they delayed the Christmas opening by a week which may of helped the crowds on Veterans day. You may want to check out those details before you go.

Thanks so much for the info!! DS Golden Birthday is 11/7 so we are trying to figure out how to plan the week. We had thought we would go 11/3-11/10 but I am beginning to think I want to avoid staying the 9th & 10th..may have to revise the dates. Is earlier in the week better, then it starts getting buy on Thursday? or is the whole week before busy? or the week after? Does anyone know if Universal is just as crowded?

In 2010, we were there Sunday - Wednesday, with the next day (Thurs) being the Veteran's Holiday and Friday was the Christmas opening. Sunday - Wednesday was perfect! Walk on to Pirates. We walked up and there was a CM standing there with a boat ready to go. Not a single other person around. Kinda weird but wonderful. On that Sunday, they were filming the Christmas show so Main Street and in front of the castle was crazy crowded so we just stayed away. That is the same time we had walk on to Pirates. The rest of our week was awesome too. We did not into the park on Thursday but I walked over from the hotel in the morning to get souvenir maps and the Esplanade and lines at the gates were packed. Completely different from our days.

I don't know if Christmas opening in 2011 was also right by Veteran's Day or if that is a regular thing. But the days before the holiday would be my ideal time to go again.

BTW - weather was pretty good that week. Light sprinkles one morning. But it did get quite chilly around 4:30 each day so bring a jacket!

My bday is veterans day and have been there twice on that day. It's AWFUL! Both times the park closed due to capacity.

We arrive in Anaheim on November 11th and depart on the 19th. Trying to make plans for what we should do on which particular day.
Looking at Touringplans.com and wondering how accurate they can possibly be.

In 2011 Verteran's Day fell on Friday.
According to touringplans the crowd levels for Friday thru Sunday that weekend didn't go above a 7.1.

Now for 2012 I'm looking at their predicted crowd levels.
The 11th falls on the Sunday and crowd levels are predicted at under 7.
On the Monday though - which I understand is to be observed as a holiday - they are predicting a level of lower than 3.
How is that possible?
Perhaps I shouldn't be putting much faith into their predictions.

yeah exactly...do NOT i repeat do NOT go by TP...at all:rotfl:...if you go earlier in the week it will be slower...much slower...you may even be ok on Friday earlier in the day..but by afternoon the crowds will start coming in and the rest of the weekend will be awful

Wow, good to know!

This year Veteran's Day is on a Sunday. Does that mean that Monday is a holiday also in the US?

We were there on veterans day and it was crowded like crazy/ However before and after days were just fine...

I'm Canadian but from what I can tell from the U.S. Calendars I can find - the Monday is considered a holiday.

Federal Government offices are closed on November 11. If Veterans Day falls on a Saturday, they are closed on Friday November 10. If Veterans Day falls on a Sunday, they are closed on Monday November 12. State and local governments, schools and non-governmental businesses are not required to close and may decide to remain open or closed. Public transit systems may follow a regular or holiday schedule.
